New Steam Deck beta update adds Xbox controller firmware warnings, improves remote play, and more

Valve has rolled out a new Steam Deck beta update, and while it may look small at first, it brings a few very useful improvements that many users will appreciate. The update is now available on the preview/beta channel, meaning it is aimed at users who like to test new features early before they arrive in the stable release.
What does the update offer?
One of the most important changes in this update is related to Xbox controllers. Many Steam Deck users like to connect Xbox controllers through Bluetooth, but this has not always worked smoothly. With this new beta update, the Steam Deck can now detect when you are trying to pair an Xbox controller that is running an older firmware version.
If the controller cannot properly connect, the system will show a clear notification explaining the issue. It also tells users what they need to do next. To fix the problem, you simply need to connect the controller to a Windows PC and update its firmware using the Xbox Accessories app.
The update also brings a helpful change for accessibility. Valve has moved the Screen Reader’s “Stop Talking” button to the X button. This may sound minor, but it makes a big difference for players using external gamepads. With this change, players can still open the Quick Access Menu using the Guide button plus the A button on their controller.
There is also an improvement to Friends and Chat. Steam Deck users can now report suspicious or harassing messages directly from group chats. You just need to select the message and press the Options button. While sending the report, you can also choose to block or unfriend the user at the same time.
