PlayStation 5 Pro’s PSSR 2 rumored to feature a range of improvements, including quality and resolutions

As part of the PlayStation 5 Pro release, Sony released its upscaling technology, PSSR, just for that version of the console, in a method to actually achieve the higher framerates and resolutions. This follows on from Mark Cerny’s comment that the console will be getting FSR 4-like technology implemented to improve its feature set.
According to known leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead, the PSSR 2, or just its next upgrade, is getting an upgrade now. In this upgrade, Sony is training a new lightweight neural network that will require less frame time to upscale the image and with a higher image quality, no matter what the base image quality is.
At the moment, the technology requires a base resolution of 864p, which is fairly high compared to other tech like Nvidia’s DLSS. So, the next implementation should offer better quality with upscaling from lower resolutions.

MLID suggests the new version of the upscaler is coming and may not be called that, but is being trained to improve the ability to run 4K resolution at 120FPS. While also pushing its 8K capabilities and getting a solid 60 FPS in them. Combined, the two should improve the look of a great range of games to make the console a valid choice to go for.
This would be implementing the sort of image quality upgrades that came about with the FSR 2 to 3.1 upgrade. It also expands on the supported resolution offerings instead of just the 4K standard option. Instead, it will also be capable of running 1440p and 1080p at a fast 120FPS. Along with providing games that don’t use the upscaler, with the option to use MFSR instead of TAA anti-aliasing to give a better image.
