PowerColor is releasing a new model, the RX 9070 XT, one that brings some more personalization to its Red Devil lineup. The Backplate Special Edition adds a magnetic backplate to create something a bit different compared to the rest of the market. It’s much like the RTX 4060 Ti Spider-Man edition we reviewed, which added some great art to the graphics card.

However, PowerColor’s implementation is a bit more basic. Keeping in line with the rest of the Red Devil design, the backplate (or Onyx Devil Skin as it’s called on the product page) keeps to the black colorway and adds an edgy design to the back. It keeps to polygons and 3D build, it matches the rest of the card in a move away from the flatter normal option.

It’s not too dissimilar to the GPU covers we saw Palit showing off at Computex last week as part of its ‘Palit Maker’ program.

The addition of this backplate is done with just magnets and makes it easy to add or remove. That might be more useful, or utilizing the dual BIOS will be equally so, as the backplate looks to limit ventilation of the card. Although it might not be as big of an impact as the flow through was already fairly minimal, it definitely cuts down on it to a much smaller area. Considering the card is already thick and has seven heatsinks, with the free flow area around the edges, it might not be a worry yet.

PowerColor’s RX 9070 XT editions

This is not the only edition of the 9070 XT that PowerColor has to offer, not even the only Red Devil model. There is already the base model Red Devil that offers an overclocked version of the graphics card with a strong design. With there being a Limited Edition version as well, that seemingly aims to offer a metal keycap alongside the card as an additional feature.

Another model is the Spectral White Red Devil, a version of the card that comes in white instead. A more unique and less seen colorway for PC parts these days is definitely an interesting-looking card. All of these should provide a great performance too, as each of the Red Devil cards has a boost clock above 3GHz.
