A significant development in PS4 emulation on PC has been achieved with the release of shadPS4 v0.3.0. This latest update, brought to our attention by Pirat_Nation on X, introduces a range of new features that have made several previously incompatible PS4 games playable on PC.

Among the games now compatible with shadPS4 are the titles Bloodborne, Persona 4, and Red Dead Redemption. While some may require additional workarounds or configurations, these games are “now bootable and even playable to some degree” – referencing the announcement in Discord. For the uninformed, Bloodborne and RDR1 never got a PC launch, though the latter was rumored not too long ago.

shadPS4 update is a promising change for games without PC ports

The new features included in shadPS4 v0.3.0 include:

  • Cheat/Patching Support: Users can now apply cheats and patches to enhance their gameplay experience.
  • DLC Support: Downloadable content for compatible games is now supported, expanding the available content.
  • New Translations Support: The emulator now supports 26 languages, allowing players to enjoy games in their preferred language.
  • Trophy Support: Gamers can now unlock trophies in compatible games, adding an extra layer of challenge and reward.
  • Expanded Controller Support: The emulator now supports a wider range of controllers, including DualShock and Xbox controllers.
  • GUI Improvements: The user interface has been enhanced for a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.
  • AVplayer: A built-in media player allows users to enjoy videos and other multimedia content within the emulator.

Impressive development

The release of shadPS4 v0.3.0 marks an important step for the emulation of PS4 games on PC. While the emulator is still under development, the progress made in recent months has been impressive. As the emulator continues to evolve, we can expect even more games to become playable and the overall experience to improve further.

However, it’s important to note that due to the significant changes in version 0.3.0, older save files may no longer be compatible. Users are advised to create backups of their saved data before updating to the latest version.

The ability to play PlayStation 4 games on PC offers a number of advantages. It allows users to enjoy these games on more powerful hardware, potentially improving performance and graphics. One downside is that keyboard and mouse support is not yet supported. Perhaps most importantly, shadPS4 finally brings games like Bloodborne to PC nearly a decade after it launched, with expectations for an official port at this point fairly low.
