Raspberry Pi has just launched a new version of its 12-megapixel camera module, and it’s even smaller than before. This new camera is called the Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 Sensor Assembly, and it’s now available for as cheap as $15. It’s great for those who need the same high-quality camera but in a smaller size. This also comes a few days after the company announced the new Radio Module 2.

The original Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 has been popular since its launch two and a half years ago. Students and even professionals have used it in a wide range of projects. However, some users need even smaller parts, especially when building tiny devices or fitting the camera into tight spaces. To help with that, Raspberry Pi has now separated the camera sensor from the full camera board, making it easier to fit into small custom devices.

This new Camera Module 3 Sensor Assembly still uses the same IMX708 sensor. It offers 11.9 megapixels with autofocus and clear image quality. That means you’re not giving up performance, even though the module is smaller. It also supports both visible light and infrared (NoIR), depending on which version you choose.

There are four versions available. The basic standard version and its NoIR version each cost $15. If you want a wider field of view, there’s also a wide-angle version and a wide-angle NoIR version, both priced at $25. These wide versions let the camera capture more of the scene, which can be useful for security, wildlife watching, or creative photography.

If you want to build your own board, Raspberry Pi is making it easier by giving you diagrams and a list of parts you’ll need. This lets you add the camera to your own project however you like. In any case, if you’re interested in buying the new Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 Sensor Assembly, you can head over to its product page on the company’s official website.
