Retroid has introduced two new color options for its popular OLED handheld, the Retroid Pocket 5. The device originally launched back in 2024, and now, more than a year later, it is getting a fresh look with Yellow and Turquoise variants.

The Retroid Pocket 5 was one of the early devices that helped push mid-range handhelds into a more premium space. It comes with a Snapdragon 865 processor and a 1080p OLED display, along with a full glass front design. This combination gives it a clean look, while the OLED panel helps hide black bars during gameplay, especially when running older titles that don’t fit the screen perfectly.

With the addition of these new colors, buyers now have more options to choose from. Previously, the device was mostly available in standard shades like black and white. The new Yellow and Turquoise variants add a more playful and vibrant style, which many users prefer for handheld gaming devices.

Interestingly, these new color options were not originally planned for the Pocket 5. Instead, they were first designed for another device, the Retroid Pocket G2. That model offered similar design but came with upgraded internals, including a newer chipset and faster RAM. However, the G2 was recently discontinued, likely due to rising memory and component costs affecting production.

Instead of letting those parts go to waste, Retroid appears to have repurposed the leftover shells and brought them to the Pocket 5. This also shows how companies are adapting during the ongoing memory and storage shortages, which have already forced several brands to delay or cancel products.

The full retail price of the Retroid Pocket 5 remains unchanged; however, it is enjoying a discount right now. It usually retails for $219.00, but Retroid is currently selling them for just $199.00. This makes it one of the more affordable OLED handhelds currently available. It also comes equipped with 8GB LPDDR4x RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5000mAh battery.
