RTX 4070-level performance? More hints emerge about Nvidia’s upcoming laptop APU

When it comes to the APU market, AMD has mostly got the market sewn up. Small and portable devices, such as the Steam Deck and its competitors, utilize an APU, or accelerated processing unit. These chips have the advantage of being able to act as both a CPU and a GPU, saving space and power. AMD also thrives in the desktop APU market. There have previously been hints that Nvidia also has an APU in the works, and the latest report appears to back up this rumor.
According to a media outlet from Taiwan, Nvidia has teamed up with MediaTek to create a gaming APU. This mysterious chip is said to have a TDP of between 80 and 120 Watts and is planned for launch in early 2026. Talk about this collaboration has been going on for the best part of a year now.
The report says that Taiwanese outlet UDN got a look at the chip, which is specified to be intended for gaming laptops. The APU is said to be ARM-based and can perform similarly to an RTX 4070 laptop.
No specifications available yet
The exact Nvidia GPU being used has not been specified, but is likely to be a cut-down version of either a GB206 or GB207. For the ARM cores, MediaTek is thought to be using off-the-shelf components, such as Lumex or similar. If this speculation is accurate, it would be the most powerful ARM-based mobile chip on the market.
With early 2026 being suggested as the likely release date, this does imply that the APU will be unveiled during CES 2026, followed by a wide launch in the following weeks and months. The APU is expected to make its debut alongside an unspecified Dell product, which might be one of the APU-powered gaming laptops.
Though the product is mostly intended for laptops, APUs have so far seen the greatest success in gaming handhelds, though Nvidia might struggle to make a gaming handheld with a chip that needs a whopping 80 W at minimum.
