For months now, there has been speculation about Nvidia's next generation of GPUs. While the release date of the RTX 50 series cards will likely be sometime in early 2025, and it looks like Nvidia's roadmap is on track. As per some new reports, Nvidia is all set to finalize the design of the Blackwell graphics cards this month if there are no unexpected delays in the process.

In August, we reported that the manufacturing of the RTX 5000 GPUs was facing some hurdles due to flaws in the design. Despite the obstacles, the company was optimistic about launching the GPUs on time.

Now, according to a recent report by Benchlife, Nvidia will be finalizing the designs of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs in September. Further, the report also mentioned that “D” variants of both cards – RTX 5090D and RTX 5080D – will be released in China. Once the designs are finalized, more information will be available online.

RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 power consumption may not be too bad after all

Earlier this month, there was speculation that the upcoming RTX 5000 series cards were far more power-hungry than the RTX 4000 GPUs.

However, the same Benchlife report said that these high figures may represent the “maximum heat dissipation capabilities of the radiator” and not TGP. The TGPs (otherwise known as TDP) of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are said to be 550W and 350W, respectively. If this is true, then these TGP numbers seem much more reasonable.

For reference, the RTX 4090 has a TDP of 450W, and the RTX 4080 has a 320W TDP. This means, their successors will have an increase of 100W and 30W increase respectively. Overall, it looks like the RTX 5000 series production seems to be on track. If everything goes well, we'll get the first glimpse of these cards in 2025.
