RTX 5090 drops below MSRP at Best Buy, if you don’t mind buying a used GPU in ‘Excellent’ condition

Finding Nvidia’s flagship GPU, the RTX 5090, for a decent price has been a struggle ever since it launched near the beginning of the year. It’s the best graphics card on the market in terms of raw performance, but the price can be eye-watering. Nvidia officially prices the 5090 at $1999, but a quick search on retailers like Best Buy reveals it goes for $2,400 upwards.
However, we’ve now spotted an RTX 5090 for just under its recommended price tag at the popular U.S. retailer. Gigabyte’s Gaming OC model is currently available for as cheap as $1,871.99 – or $1,991.99 in ‘Excellent’ condition.
RTX 5090 for less than $2,000 at Best Buy
You’re saving $408 if you opt for the excellent condition open-box card, or $528 for the ‘Good’ condition one. Both versions offer a “fully functional” graphics card that “works like new”. The ‘Good’ condition may come with minor scratches and dents, while the excellent card should also look like new.
Of course, there is always a risk when purchasing an open-box product from Best Buy. Due to the nature of open-box, it can produce a pretty mixed bag of quality, but we think it’s worth the risk. The reassuring thing is that open-box products are covered by the same returns and exchange promise as brand-new products. So, if you don’t think the high-end GPU is up to your standards, you can always return it.

Some speculate that these Gigabyte cards are showing up on Best Buy’s open-box listings as a result of a reported thermal gel leakage problem on the company’s high-end RTX 50 series graphics cards.
