Samsung Unpacked February 2022 breakdown

The event opened up explaining that life has changed with society relying on technology, with social and technological progress going hand in hand. They’re looking to make a big impact in this regard, leading to their ‘Galaxy for the Planet’ initiative, building power saving into plugs, reducing landfills, and using reusable plastics. In fact, all products announced in Samsung Unpacked are made of plastic recovered from ocean debris.

Samsung is also working alongside the UN’s sustainable development goals too, primarily with the Samsung global goals app. Samsung is looking to empower youth with the next generation of young leaders with ‘Generation 17’.

Security and privacy went up next. With Samsung patting themselves on the back for their ‘best in class’ security, alongside their 22 research and development hubs around the world.

Looking to ‘rewrite the rules of innovation’, Samsung is looking to empower and be inclusive. Up next was a period drama-comedy, with a lackluster Lord. Macintosh failed to impress royalty with a raincoat, which is then followed by the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S22. We’re surprised a massive cheese board wasn’t present also…

Anyway, the whole marketing strategy here is an innovation that is meant to invoke creative and visual feelings, focusing on ‘pro grade’ cameras. Let’s face it, Samsung isn’t going to tell you that their latest flagship is going to be pants, are they?

There’s image stabilization, small object detection, and smooth zoom features that work natively with other apps such as Snapchat. Advanced HDR features when recording videos also work natively in Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. Nightography is going to create a new standard too apparently, being able to produce ‘lifelike imagery’.

Galaxy S22 will start from $799, with S22+ starting at $999.

Next up was the unveiling of The Samsung Galaxy Spaceship, or what will be commonly known as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. In other news, my headphones have never made so much bass.

Its camera lenses sink into the handset, removing a camera bar and taking visual notes from the Note. This means the S Pen plugs straight into the S22 Ultra, which is three times more responsive than before thanks to AI. There are some extra S Pen features on compatible apps such as Microsoft Outlook. It’s a glass and aluminum sandwich design, which is built like a tank according to Samsung, but we’d still get a case on it on release.

Samsung Unpacked then went on to talk about the power of S22 Ultra which includes AI and advanced cooling. This includes gel and nana TIMs that move heat faster to a vapor chamber which goes along the battery and stays away from the PCB and onto a graphite sheet which ultimately distributes heat. A pretty cool design if you ask us.

Once again, Nightography then popped in to tell us that it’s tough to take pictures at night, but Samsung has the perfect solution with the S22 Ultra. Although, it’s supposed to be good on the standard S22 model too? To be honest, it slows down frames captured per second in real-time when recording video in low light, allowing for more light to enter the lens. RAW format is coming to S22 Ultra too which should make pro photographers happy.

Google Duo is also becoming Androids’ answer to Apple’s SharePlay functionality, with Google Duo allowing for video calls whilst watching YouTube.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is available for preorder now starting at $1199.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S series of tablets were announced next, with 30% less latency with the new tablet and SPen combination. It also includes auto framing technology when using the front camera, which can be propped up with help from the new Keyboard and touchpad case. This turns the Tab S8 series tablet into a productivity machine, tablet, and laptop functionality combined.

Expandable storage is included and supports up to 1TB of Micro SD storage, which adds to the powerhouse nature of the lineup, in particular the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Apparently, it makes the most of ‘work, play and everything else’.

Ranging from $799 from the base model to $1099 for the Tab S8 Ultra model, buying directly from Samsung bags buyers a free keyboard and touchpad case.

Other announcements include a new Samsung Wallet that can store Crypto, ID, various payment methods all via the security of Samsung Knox. Samsung Galaxy Watches are now more customizable than ever including new strap and watch face colors. One UI 4 got some screentime too, which is powered by Android 12, which is also coming to Galaxy Tabs too. Activity can be carried over to Windows PCs too.

Operating system upgrades are now going to cover up to four generations, this means security updates too. Although sustainable choices probably shouldn’t include yearly handset upgrades? Although 99% of Samsungs packaging is now sustainable, plastics are now partially made up of ocean-found materials. Although it’s more for publicity, it’s great to see tech giants putting efforts into sustainability and raising pollution awareness.

Which products were announced?

Samsung is starting 2022 with some heavy-hitting technology that should put them in good sted for 2022, with budget versions such as a Fan Edition most likely coming in Q4 2022. Today’s Samsung Unpacked took place within the Multiverse, something that is showing Samsungs future intentions with digital interaction in their growing Android ecosystem.

Let’s cut right to it, here’s all the awesome tech announced today with some key information:
