Amazon’s October Prime Day (Prime Big Deal Days) is here, offering some fantastic deals on CPUs. One particularly enticing deal is this 63% off the Ryzen 7 5800X. AMD has worked miracles with the 5000 series, and despite its being a few generations old now, it still holds a lot of value for budget-oriented gamers. Now could be the perfect time to upgrade if you have had your eye on a Zen 3 CPU for a while.
The 5800X sits on the AM4 platform, which has been surpassed by AM5, but remains in support, and will likely stay that way well into 2025, according to AMD. This CPU has 8 cores and 16 threads, making it somewhat ideal for multi-threaded workloads, not to mention the Zen 3 CPU cores clocked with a boost speed of up to 4.7 GHz, making it wicked fast for gaming. Don’t let its age fool you either, this CPU is perfectly capable of keeping up with some of the more modern GPUs on the market. Now if only we could find an Amazon Prime Day deal for a GPU to go with this CPU.

Why you should consider this 5800X Prime Day deal
There are a few considerations to make when considering this 5800X Prime Day deal, here are the most important:
- 8 core & 16 thread CPU: 16 logical processors make this CPU ideal for chewing through multithreaded workloads. This CPU could be used as a budget rendering device, or it could go into a home server, the applications are plentiful.
- AM4 will remain in support until 2025, and is affordable: AM4 has been superseded by AM5, which makes the platform much cheaper for those looking to strike a deal using this hardware. We’d usually recommend upgrading to AM5 but you just can’t beat the savings that AM4 brings on Prime Day.
- Hardware virtualization: Touching on what we said about home servers a minute ago, the 5800X has hardware virtualization, which allows it to run virtual machines or thrive in server environments. This makes it perfect for a home server or a VM machine.
- Fast DDR4 memory helps to improve performance: Ryzen 5000 series CPUs are reliant on fast DDR4 memory, the faster the better. This is because core communication speed is tied to memory speed. DDR4 is also affordable compared to DDR5, so picking up a fast kit should be no problem.
For $164 this Ryzen 7 5800X deal could be yours
As we touched on, the 5800X is comfortable in any environment, it can be a gaming CPU, a VM, a Server, or something to render your latest 3D models in the background. Don’t get me wrong, there are far better CPUs for each of those jobs, but none cost just $164. The Ryzen 5000 series was one of my favorite CPU generations, as it’s when AMD really came into its own and began to dominate in multi-core performance. Because of this, AMD brought a lot of CPUs to the table for very affordable prices. Now it’s just like Amazon is giving them away.
