Silent Hill f is an upcoming survival horror game and the eighth main entry in the popular Silent Hill series. Fans have been waiting a long time for the franchise to return with a brand-new entry, and the excitement around this new title is huge. The mystery behind what the ‘f’ stands for also remains.

The game is set to launch on all major platforms, including PC. And for Steam Deck users, there's some good news – the game has recently been rated as Playable on the handheld. This is in contrast to the Silent Hill 2 remake, which remains Unsupported on the handheld despite some optimization.

Silent Hill 2’s system requirements seem demanding for the Steam Deck

Steam has a Verification System for the Steam Deck. It helps users figure out which games will run well on the handheld. If a game is marked as Verified, that means it works smoothly without needing to change any settings. But if a game is labeled Playable, it means you can still play it, but you'll probably need to tweak the settings to get good performance. And if you head over to the official Steam page for Silent Hill f, you'll now see that its Steam Deck Compatibility is marked as Playable.

The good news here is that you'll be able to enjoy Silent Hill f on your Steam Deck, but there are some concerns. The game's minimum system requirements list an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 for the CPU, and a GTX 1070 Ti or RX 5700 for the GPU.

These are fairly powerful for a game's minimum requirements and a bit high for the Steam Deck to handle comfortably. While the developer says these specs can give you 30 FPS at 720p on performance settings, the Steam Deck may struggle a bit, so you should expect to make quite a few graphic sacrifices to get the game running smoothly. Importantly, these specs are very similar to the Silent Hill 2 remake, which we already know doesn’t run well on the Steam Deck.

It's also worth noting that the Steam Deck Verification System is not always perfect. There have been games in the past that were rated incorrectly. A recent example is Spider-Man 2, which was initially marked as Verified. But when the game launched, it had several performance problems on the Steam Deck, leading to Valve changing its rating to Playable.

In any case, it's still good to see Silent Hill f marked as Playable. This means it won't be completely unplayable on the handheld. However, don’t get too excited, as we won't really know how well the game runs on the Steam Deck until it officially launches.
