It turns out GPU shopping on a Chinese marketplace can lead to some pretty intriguing finds. One user found this out while searching for an Radeon RX 7900 XTX reference card, only to find something which much bigger. The 7900 XTX is AMD’s flagship graphics card of the previous generation, and there’s no model above it – or bigger than it, for that matter.

It’s unclear what exactly the GPU is, but it dons the typical Radeon RX 7000 series design, with a couple of noticeable differences. The larger size means larger fans, and also lacks the glossy plastic finish underneath the graphics card’s LEDs. Sadly, the card lacks power connector pins, but there’s enough space there to accommodate three 8-pin connectors.

We might be looking at a canceled RX 7950 XTX

According to user FP32 on the Korean Quasar Zone forums, they purchased what they thought was a shrouded RX 7900 XTX from an unspecified Chinese marketplace, but what arrived was “weird and unfamiliar”. The larger size would imply an even beefier GPU than the 7000 series flagship, perhaps the 7950 XTX if we were to go off AMD’s naming scheme. While the 6000 series flagship did get a 6950 XT upgrade, the 7000 series got no such refresh outside of the cut-down GRE models.

The unknown card’s length reaches 33cm compared to the reference XTX’s 29cm, and it’s also noticeably thicker. Whether it’s an early version of the 7900 XTX or indeed a canceled 7950 XTX will remain a mystery. Opening it up reveals that the internet layout is a little bit different too, but doesn’t provide any further clues.

Since there is no circuit board or power connectors on the card, it can’t simply be identified outside of the serial numbers printed on it. Either way, this seems to be a unique find that we’ve certaintly not seen the likes of before, so we’re keen to see if this story develops any further. Discussion on the forum post doesn’t get any closer to solving the mystery.
