Sony might bring ‘Cross-Buy’ to PS5 & PC gamers, leak suggests, similar to Xbox Play Anywhere
Table of Contents
PC gamers may be familiar with the ‘Xbox Play Anywhere’ feature, even if they don’t own an Xbox console. The label is applied to more than 1,000 games and essentially refers to any game that allows you to pay once (via the Microsoft Store) and own it both on PC and Xbox. These games also benefit from cross-progression support, so you can start your adventure on your Xbox console and pick up where you left off on your PC or handheld gaming PC (such as the new ROG Xbox Ally or Ally X).
Now, rumor has it that Sony could be gearing up to do something similar with the PlayStation Store. A new ‘Cross-Buy’ symbol has been sighted on the console (there is currently no official PlayStation Store app for PC), which seems to suggest some kind of functionality similar to Xbox’s ‘Play Anywhere’ program.
Cross-Buy and PS5/PC icons appear on PlayStation
These leaks come from @yAmethxst on X, who has shared evidence of the new “Cross-Buy” and “PS5/PC” icons on the store. Following the leaks, billbil-kun of French publication Dealabs has done some further digging. They confirm that these icons do indeed exist and can be found in the “About” section of your PSN account on the console.

billbil-kun dug even deeper to find that relevant files have been present on the PlayStation Store website for a while now. Inspecting CSS files on the site reveals that the Cross-Buy tag has existed since at least June 2025. Importantly, these have been confirmed as fresh icons and don’t refer to the Cross-Buy terminology that was once used to describe single-purchase games compatible with the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita.
Needless to say, Sony hasn’t confirmed any plans regarding a new Cross-Buy feature for PS5 and PC games, and the fact that there is no PC-specific store for PlayStation probably suggests this feature is some way away. As a counterargument, there are several games on PC that can be linked to your PSN account. This was a requirement in several games before being removed due to backlash – Helldivers 2 is the first title that comes to mind. So, if we were to speculate, these Sony-published games could fall under the Cross-Buy tag and only require one purchase for both platforms.
There’s also the question of an unannounced PlayStation handheld in the future. Most recently, leaks suggested such a device could be more powerful than the Xbox Ally X, and it could be another avenue for PC gamers to join the PlayStation ecosystem with the chance of a PC port further down the line that they don’t have to pay for, thanks to Cross-Buy.
Right now, though, all of this should be taken with a pinch of salt. We’ve at least seen more developers keen to bring franchises to PC on day one, rather than leaving them as console exclusives until a port gets put together.
