WF-1000XM5 The Best Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds
Why you should choose the WF-1000XM5 earbuds
Sony calls the WF-1000XM5 the best true wireless noise-canceling earbuds on the market, but should you trust them? Well, it’s a well-respected brand for a reason, and the XM5 earbuds are actually the brand’s latest, albeit two years old at this point. Sony may have launched its XM6 (over-ear) headphones earlier this year, but the equivalent earbuds aren’t expected until early 2026. The XM5 generation is still top-notch, however, so let’s run through some key features below:
Noise canceling
The noise cancelation tech in these earbuds is perhaps their biggest selling point. Sony says it uses “Multi Noise Sensor technology” to achieve the “best” noise canceling available. The tech is powered by Sony’s Integrated Processor V2 and HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN2e, which control six microphones across both ears to listen to your surroundings and counteract ambient noise, including accurate noise cancelation at lower frequencies.
Excellent sound quality
As you should expect, any high-quality Sony headphones or earbuds will deliver crisp sound. Sony says the WF-1000XM5 uses a “specially designed driver unit” named Dynamic Driver X to enable “richer, more detailed vocals”. The brand also notes that the dual-processor design helps deliver low distortion and “crystal clear audio reproduction”.

Comfort and battery life
Whether you find a particular brand or model of earbud comfortable generally comes down to personal preference, so we can’t speak to that, but Sony says the WF-1000XM5 earbuds are shaped to “perfectly match” the human ear. As such, it promises to be an ergonomic design. The earbud tips are also made from an “exclusive” material to improve comfort; they are available in four sizes, so they should cater to everyone.
As for battery life, Sony lists the WF-1000XM5 with a maximum of 12 hours for ‘general features’ with noise cancelation off, or 8 hours with it turned on. These values drop to 7 hours and 6 hours, respectively, when tested with ‘continuous communication’.
Extra bundles and color options
The WF-1000XM5 earbuds are available in three colors, all for the same price. Usually priced at $329.99, you can now get the buds for just $229.99, a clean $100 off the asking price. They are available in Black, Smoky Pink, and Silver.
As for bundles, you’ll save an additional $50 if you bundle these WF-1000XM5 earbuds with the WH-1000XM5 headphones – a nice discount if you’re also looking for a pair of over-ear headphones with the same quality you can expect from the earbuds. The WF-1000XM5 earbuds also come with a three-month complimentary trial of Audible Premium Plus.
