The Sony WH-1000XM5 is one of the best sets of headphones currently available on the market, praised for its excellent sound quality and features. However, it's been nearly three years since its release, and fans have been eagerly awaiting a successor with new upgrades. Even though Sony has stayed quiet and hasn't shared any official details, a recent leak has revealed the next model, the WH-1000XM6, and it looks like the wait might be worth it.

While Sony hasn't made any announcements yet, a Reddit user spotted the WH-1000XM6 listed on Amazon Spain. Although the product page has now been removed, the user managed to grab a screenshot and share the specifications. This leak gives us a good idea of what Sony has planned for its next flagship headphones.
According to the leaked details, the WH-1000XM6 will come with Sony's best noise-cancelling technology yet, using a new processor called the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 and 12 microphones to block out unwanted sound. It also features Auto NC Optimizer, which adjusts the noise cancelling based on your surroundings. The sound quality has also been improved with help from Grammy-winning mastering engineers. It includes a 30mm driver, Hi-Res Audio support, DSEE Extreme, and a 10-band equalizer that you can customize.
The design is also more practical. The headphones now fold, making them easier to carry, and the new case has a magnetic closure for quick access. Sony has made them lighter and more comfortable for long use, with softer earpads and a more secure headband. The battery lasts up to 30 hours, and a 3-minute charge gives 3 hours of use, making it a great option for those who are always on the go.
The best part is that the WH-1000XM6 is not just for music, as it offers 360 Upmix for watching movies. On top of that, gamers will benefit greatly from a new Game EQ for better sound clarity. For those concerned about the call quality, Sony has added six AI microphones that reduce background noise. While the price hasn't been officially confirmed, the Amazon Spain listing suggests that the WH-1000XM6 will cost 388€, which translates to around $440. The listing also claims that the upcoming model will be released on May 15, 2025.
