Star Wars Battlefront 2 player count skyrockets on Steam and apparently all it took was a generous discount

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been around for quite a while now. The game first came out in October 2017 and was later added to Steam on June 11, 2020. When it was first released, many players were excited, but the excitement didn't last very long. Its player base slowly started to drop over the years, but this has now changed.
For a long time, the game was sitting quietly on Steam with only about 2,000 to 4,000 players at its peak on most days. But now, something unexpected has happened, as the game has suddenly broken its all-time record for peak player count. According to SteamDB, just yesterday, the game reached 35,892 players online at the same time. That's a massive jump from what it used to be. And one reason behind this huge spike is quite simple: a very generous 90% discount.
Prime Day may have closed its doors, but that hasn't stopped great deals from landing on the web's biggest online retailer. Here are all the best last chance savings from this year's Prime event.

Right now, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is available on Steam with a 90% discount. The price has dropped from its original $39.99 to just $3.99, which is an all-time low. Such deals don’t come around so often, especially for a game that offers so much content. The best part is that the version that's currently on sale is the Celebration Edition, which includes everything that's been released for the game up until now.
Taking a closer look at the Steam charts, we can see that the game has enjoyed its usual uplift on May the 4th (otherwise known as Star Wars Day). But this year, it was followed by a massive rise in late May (possibly due to renewed interest from Andor season 2) and an even bigger one at the end of June. A massive jump in players is noticeable from June 19, which is when this 90% discount kicked in. Also, keep in mind that these numbers don’t include alternative storefronts or Xbox Game Pass.
The Celebration Edition includes the full base game, along with all updates that have been released so far. You also get over 25 different looks for hero characters, including special appearances for characters like Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. On top of that, there are more than 125 appearance options for regular soldiers and reinforcements, over 100 different emotes and voice lines for both heroes and troopers, and more than 70 victory poses.
It is important to keep in mind that the discount is available until June 26, so make sure to grab the game before it returns to its original price. There haven’t been any major updates to the game in a long time, but perhaps this player spike might make EA and/or DICE want to revisit the franchise.
