Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC finally went live today, with fans excited to finally get a go on the new game. This DLC brings a new story for you to explore filled with new weapons, bosses, and much more. However, in an attempt to fix bugs and get the original game ready for the DLC, FromSoftware’s patch seems to have broken the multiplayer feature.
Fortunately, if – like the majority of the Elden Ring fan base – you’re planning on playing the new DLC, that should automatically fix the issue. Well, that’s what we’ve experienced anyway.
Elden Ring patch 1.12 is causing issues for Steam Deck users
FromSoftware dropped a new big update for Elden Ring some hours before the DLC went live. While the update was meant to; add support for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, introduce new features and improvements, and fix bugs, it has also ended up ruining the game for Steam Deck users.
Apparently, as per several users on Reddit, they are being met with the ‘Inappropriate activity detected’ error whenever they’re trying to launch the game on their handheld. Initially, you might think you did something wrong given the nature of the error, but don’t worry, you didn’t.

Interestingly, for some people, the error appears right after they launch the game. For others, it shows up even after playing a PvP match, suggesting that it can pop up anytime. Another annoying issue that Steam Deck users are currently facing is that if they leave their handheld inactive for more than 5 minutes, the game may stop accepting inputs. If this happens, your only option is to restart the game.
Is there any fix for it?
According to our team on the ground – who are currently enjoying the game’s new DLC – simply installing Shadow of the Erdtree fixes the error. Here’s the message we received upon installing and trying to load multiplayer:

Thankfully, FromSoftware has confirmed they’re aware of the issue and are working on a fix for it. They mentioned that the date and time for the hotfix will be announced separately. However, considering that everyone had been eagerly waiting to jump into the new DLC, the developers will most likely release a fix soon.
