We first saw the ‘Great on Frame’ page appear on the Steam store more than a month ago, starting with Portal 2 after the game received an official Steam Frame compatibility rating. It didn’t take long for Valve to build up the section, adding a handful of games in the days following – and now, that number has grown to more than 85 (at the time of writing, 86 to be exact).

While the number of compatible games continues to grow, we still don’t know exactly when the Steam Frame will launch. One VR game dev last week said they were “confident” it was “just around the corner,” but Valve has remained quiet. The company does have its 30th anniversary on August 24, so maybe that’s a date to look forward to – if we were to speculate.

Steam Frame-compatible games list

One of the first things you may notice about the Great on Frame page is the mixture of VR-only and regular ‘2D’ or ‘flat’ games. Even if a game isn’t designed for VR, that doesn’t mean it’s not compatible with the Steam Frame. As long as it has suitable performance, works with the Frame’s controllers, and launches fine on SteamOS (either natively or via Proton), then it’s all fine.

Gamers can play 2D games on the headset on a virtual screen, and according to Valve’s compatibility review process (here), 2D titles “must run at a minimum [of] 30 fps at 1280×720 during normal play” to be compatible. In other Steam Frame news, the startup movie was leaked earlier this month – and just a couple of days ago, Valve’s official unboxing and setup guide videos were leaked online after being spotted in an ARM Steam Client update. Eight videos were shared, including unboxing, first-time setup, and how to use the ‘Ergonomic Accessories Kit’ that ships with the headset.
