Tech deals are always happening – you just need to know where to look for them. We’ve spotted the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D safely below its $479 MSRP on Micro Center. The popular U.S. retailer is a great place for PC hardware at reasonable prices, and it’s especially well-known for its tech bundles. The only problem is, many of its best deals are pick-up only.

This is also the case with the 9800X3D, which is currently $50 off at Micro Center, bringing the price down to $429.99. This is the cheapest we could find it anywhere (at the time of writing). It’s still difficult to find a refurbished or open-box variant if you want to save even more cash that way. The good news is that stock levels are plentiful at Micro Center, so if you live close to a store or don’t mind a little road trip, you can save some cash.

Why should you pick the 9800X3D?

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D is rated as our best CPU for gaming for good reason. Although there are even higher-end Ryzen 9 X3D processors in the 9000 series, they are designed for those who need the extra cores for productivity (think video creation, rendering, or AI workloads). If you’re looking for something solely for gaming, the Ryzen 7 chip is better value; the Ryzen 9 CPUs don’t provide any extra boost for gamers.

We put the 9800X3D to the test in our review late last year, so you can see how it performs in the benchmarks below. One of the biggest upsides of the X3D design is the vastly improved 1% lows; in other words, fewer frame drops and less stuttering while gaming. This was most evident in Cyberpunk 2077, and the 9800X3D shines in more CPU-bound games such as Counter-Strike 2.
