Nvidia fans are currently looking forward to the RTX 50-series GPUs, which are expected to be announced during CES 2025. However, Nvidia has not shared any official details about the cards, including their prices or features. In fact, they haven’t even revealed when they will be released. While there’s nothing official yet, several leaks and rumors have surfaced over the past few months, giving us an idea of what the GPUs might offer. The latest one comes from a Hong Kong media outlet, revealing the launch date for the RTX 5080.
RTX 5080 arrives on January 21
According to the Hong Kong media outlet HKEPC, the RTX 5080 will hit the market on January 21. Previously, a leak from Board Channels claimed that the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 would launch in January 2025. While the earlier leak didn’t specify an exact date, it seems the month was correct. However, it’s important to note that while these two cards are expected to launch in January, the remaining cards will likely arrive in February and March.
The RTX 5080 is currently expected to feature 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM. On top of that, it will include 10,752 CUDA cores, a memory clock of 30 Gbps, and a 400W TDP. If these specifications are accurate, it won’t be a significant upgrade over the 4080. In short, the RTX 5080 will offer about 1,000 more CUDA cores, a higher memory clock, and an 80W increase in TDP. It will have the same VRAM size as the 4080 but will use a newer and better memory type.
It’s important to note that Nvidia hasn’t shared any official details yet, so take everything with a pinch of salt for now. The upcoming lineup is expected to be revealed during CES 2025, which starts in just a few days. Also, we’ll need to wait for real-world benchmarks to see whether the 5080 delivers significant improvements over the 4080.
