The original ASUS ROG Ally now comes with a $250 discount on Best Buy, but there’s a catch

The ROG Ally is one of the best handhelds on the market, offering specifications that provide a great experience on the go. Even though its successor, the ROG Xbox Ally, is set to be released this week (October 16), the original model is a great option as a more budget-friendly alternative. Right now, it’s available with a big discount at Best Buy.
If you head over to Best Buy, you’ll find the ASUS ROG Ally with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor listed for only $399. However, this is an Open Box model; in other words, it’s used. The brand-new model costs $649, so this deal saves you $250.
ROG Ally Z1 Extreme at Best Buy
It is important to keep in mind that Best Buy has three different Open Box versions: Excellent, Good, and Fair. The ROG Ally we're talking about is in Excellent condition, which means it works and looks like new, and it has been restored to factory settings. On top of that, you’ll also get all parts and accessories, while the packaging might be slightly damaged or, in some cases, be different from the original one.
Regardless, the ROG Ally offers a 7-inch 1080p IPS screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and VRR, which means the visuals are super smooth. Aside from that, it boasts a 512GB SSD – plenty enough for most users. The original model also comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, which will help ensure the handheld doesn't slow down.
If you want to save some more money, you can opt for the ‘Good’ condition model, which is listed for $380.99. This one also works like new but may have minor scratches or dents. Plus, it may be missing non-essential parts, accessories, or packaging. But since you can get the Excellent one for only $20 more, we highly recommend opting for it instead.
The new Xbox model will be offering some enticing features. Xbox highlighted “three big features” that will make it a top pick, but the good news is that the ‘Xbox mode‘ on these new models is already available for other Windows handhelds too, via the Windows Insider Program. It will be made official at a later date following a period of exclusivity for the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X.
