The Witcher 3 PC mods are finally coming to console, but only if CD Projekt RED gives them the thumbs up

If you ask a PC gaming fan what the advantages are of playing on PC instead of a console, they might reply, ‘the modding community'. Mods help keep older games fresh and interesting. The Witcher 3 has its own vibrant modding scene, but very soon, those mods might be available for console players as well.
CD Projekt Red has been fairly consistent in providing support and updates for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In the ten years since the game launched CD Projekt Red into the big leagues, the developer has offered DLC campaigns like Blood and Wine or Hearts of Stone, along with updates like the next generation update that took advantage of new hardware like the PlayStation 5.
As part of celebrations to commemorate ten years since The Witcher 3 was launched, CD Projekt Red has announced an initiative to bring another patch for the game, which will introduce cross-platform mod support. This will apply across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Those who are interested in accessing this new cross-platform mod scheme will need to create or log in to a mod.io account and connect it to a CD Projekt Red account. This can be done via the new in-game mod menu, or users can visit the mod.io website.
Mods are subject to approval on consoles
PC users can still use other modding services such as Nexus Mods or Steam Workshop, but for console users, mod.io will be required. However, mods on this platform have to adhere to content guidelines, so don’t expect anything as wild as what you may have seen on PC.
Many mods will be available across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. However, due to specific content guidelines and selection criteria for each platform, it may not be possible to bring every mod uploaded on PC to console. Mods available on mod.io must also adhere to our Fan Content Guidelines and CD PROJEKT RED User Agreement.

Mod creators will be able to create new mods using REDkit, which provides access to some of the same tools used by CD Projekt Red's development team. Specific content guidelines will need to be met for mods to be available on each platform.
Further information can be found on the official The Witcher website. The update to introduce cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3 will be released sometime later this year, though an exact date has not yet been provided.
