Reasons to get the Corsair RM850x
The Corsair RM850x is one of the best power supplies available right now as it can cater to a variety of builds, from budget to high-end; this PSU can power them all. It also has an 80 Plus Gold rating, which, according to Dell, means that it is 87% efficient at 100% load and 90% efficient at 50% load. For reference, Nvidia suggests a minimum 850W PSU for its flagship RTX 4090 graphics card, though custom models may ask for a little more – so be wary of this before you buy. So, we’d rather recommend this to pair with the likes of the RTX 4080 Super or RTX 4070 Ti Super.
It also has a fully modular design, meaning all the cables can be removed, which helps reduce the clutter and aids in cable management. It has a 135mm magnetic levitation fan with a Zero RPM mode, which turns off the fan when there isn’t sufficient load, reducing the noise output. However, the maglev functionality also reduces noise, as the shaft and bearing aren’t grinding against each other.
According to Cybernetics, this PSU has a noise rating of “A-,” which means its noise output ranges from 25 dB to 30 dB.
We have also reviewed the RM850x in-house, but it was the Shift variant, which has a 140mm fan, and the connectors are on the side. Besides that, it had excellent performance and efficiency, so the normal RM850x should serve you well regardless of the build.
