As Nvidia fans eagerly wait for the RTX 50-series GPUs, which are rumored to launch early next year according to latest speculation, new leaks are emerging about current-gen graphics cards. The latest one comes in the form of a new RTX 4070 variant that could soon make its way into the market. This new model is expected to offer a memory type different from the standard GDD6X, and it’s actually a downgrade. It’s also different from the RTX 4070 10GB version that leaked a few weeks ago.
This doesn’t exactly come as a surprise though, as Nvidia was said to be working on 40-series CPUs with GDDR6 memory thanks to a recent supply shortage for RTX 4070 cards as a result of a “GDDR6X batch quality issue“.

RTX 4070 variant with GDDR6 memory leaked
The leak comes directly from VideoCardz, who managed to get their hands on some images of the upcoming model, AD104-251. The leaked data indicates that GALAX will soon introduce an RTX 4070 OC 2X graphics card, but this one will offer GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X, which is found in the current AD104-250 4070 models. The new GPU will also have a memory speed of 20 Gbps instead of the full 21 Gbps.
Aside from what’s mentioned above, there’s nothing different about the GDDR6 version. It will share the same number of CUDA cores and boast 12GB of VRAM. On top of that, just like the regular model, it will have a dual-fan and slot design and will use an 8-pin power connector.
The TDP, however, is yet to be revealed. We don’t know if it will offer the same 200W TDP or if the different memory type and the reduction in the memory speed will affect it. Also, the leaked pictures confirm that the card’s appearance and packaging will be the same as the current models, so you’ll have to look at the specs carefully to tell the difference between them.
We also currently don’t know what the price of the new model will be. Given that it features a slower memory type and speed compared to the standard version, this one should come with a lower price tag. However, that is yet to be determined – with one user online not happy about the prospect of “a slower card, for the same money”. We’d go for the RTX 4070 Super if the price tags are close.
