A Redditor has shared one of their genius creations for the Nintendo Switch 2. The 3D printed model is a case designed to be lightweight and for short trips. It’s a protective measure that doesn’t take up as much space as a standard carry case might; instead, it aims to protect the screen and controls, so you can simply throw it in your bag without worry.

With a simple latch-on mechanism, it doesn’t take a lot of effort to install and make sure it’s attached. It uses the vent ports for clasping onto the console, with two latches on the bottom closing up and holding it in place. The model is available on Bambu’s MakerWorld and is rather accessible if you already own a 3D printer, taking just one solid print – even with moving parts.

The enhanced version of the model also comes with sticklocks. Something that might prolong the lifespan of the basic joysticks used on the console. Since they didn’t opt for Hall effect joysticks, they could still experience drift. So, using something like these sticklocks might just keep them from breaking for longer.

Keeping your Switch 2 safe

The case is a rather impressive option that utilizes what the creator had at hand and shows the versatility of 3D printing. Below are some of the close-ups of the case designed to keep your Nintendo Switch 2 safe.

You can see the indents for the controls on the underside that mean the case molds around them and doesn’t have to stay too thick to cover all of it in one. That does keep it “semi-pocketable” and low profile, where it is not for the sheer dimensions of the console already.

This design choice does come across when the creator talks of the motivations behind creating this case.

“I have to take my switch between a couple places quite regularly and my main carrying case is a little more aimed towards making sure it doesn’t get damaged during longer travelling sessions and takes up quite a lot of place in my backpack. I designed this alternative “case”/cover so that I can just throw the console into my backpack and take a 20 minute bus journey while knowing that the screen and the joycons won’t get hurt.”
