MSI Codex R2 specifications
Before spending even $999, it is better to get a complete picture of what you'll be getting in return, and we'll take a close look at each component separately.
CPU: Intel Core i5-14400F
The processor in the MSI Codex R2 is the Intel Core i5-14400F, which features 10 cores, 16 threads, a base clock of 1.8 GHz, and a boost clock speed of 4.7 GHz. The clock speeds should ensure that you're not using too much energy while idle or doing minor tasks, but when needed, the boost clock speed should push the ten cores to deliver great performance.
The 10 cores consist of 6 performance cores and 4 efficient cores. The processor’s TDP is low at 65W and can go up to 148W. That said, since it has the “F” moniker, its multiplier is locked, and you can't overclock it.
While there are people who have managed to overclock an “F” processor, we don't recommend that, as it will void the warranty, and any damage that happens won't be covered. Overall, this is a decent processor that should be able to deliver good in-game and professional performance.
GPU: RTX 4060 Ti

The RTX 4060 Ti is a beefed-up version of the base 4060 model, and it has pretty good performance, as we've tested it in-house. In our RTX 4060 Ti review, it was able to handle demanding titles at 1080p and 1440p with decent framerates and very high/ultra graphic settings. In Cyberpunk 2077, it managed 86 and 51 FPS at the same resolutions. Also, this test was done without using any AI upscaling technologies, which makes the output even more impressive.
At 4K, this FPS dropped to 21, which isn't surprising, but depending on the title, you could still play at 4K, like in CS2, which delivered 78 FPS. So, it is clear that 4K isn't this card’s strongest suit, and for optimal performance, it would be best to stick to 1080p or 1440p and leverage DLSS to further bolster the FPS.
RAM: 16GB DDR5 5,600 MHz
As for the memory, there is 16GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5,600 MHz. While for some, 16GB might not be enough, given the performance of the other components, 16GB should be more than enough for gaming at 1080p and 1440p.
That said, the difference between DDR4 and DDR5 is huge, as DDR5 can process a lot more data, meaning better efficiency and performance.
Connectivity
The MSI Codex R2 comes with plenty of connectivity options. At the front of the casing, you get the following connections:
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C
- USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type A
- HDMI
- DisplayPort
- Ethernet
However, moving away from hardware connectivity, this PC also comes with WiFi 7 connectivity, meaning you can enjoy lightning-fast download and upload speed as well as low latency via a wireless connection to comfortably game, stream, or work. That said, you will need a router that supports this standard, like the RS700S, which we've also reviewed.
Peripherals
The MSI Codex R2 comes bundled with an RGB keyboard and mouse, so you won't have to spend more on getting those and getting started right out of the box. The only component left would be the monitor, which you could also get on Prime Day.
