Nintendo Switch 2 is the hot topic in the handheld gaming console market. People rushed to grab this console, and it is seemingly out of stock at most retailers. Amazon has Switch 2 games available, but not the Switch 2 itself.

On the other hand, there were also reports of the Switch 2 getting bricked after people attempted to mod it, signaling that Nintendo is serious about protecting its property. However, the situation surrounding Switch 2 took an interesting turn when thousands of them were stolen from the back of a semi-truck out for delivery.

2,810 Switch 2s stolen

While some wait for the stock to be replenished, others aren’t that patient, and recently, we saw a massive amount of Switch 2s being stolen. According to 9NEWS, 2,810 units were stolen when the semi-truck carrying them stopped at a truck stop in Bennett, and the driver noticed that his vehicle had been broken into.

Each unit costs Nintendo $410, while for consumers, the price is $499. So, even if we consider that each unit costs $410, it means that Nintendo lost $ 1,150,000, which is well over a million dollars in loss.

Whether these devices can be recovered or not, we can’t say for sure, but Nintendo does have the ability to brick the stolen devices if they are turned on and connected to the internet. Each unit has a serial number, which Nintendo and the police are aware of, and can be easily tracked.

So, if you see a Nintendo Switch 2 on a shady platform going for cheap, we’d recommend steering clear of it as it could be one of the stolen ones. However, there is also the possibility that these devices might never see the light of day and are only used offline or shipped out of the country.

That being said, the thieves will have to cover their tracks smartly, regardless of how they move forward. However, there is the question: How did they know which truck to hit? Whether it is an inside job or it was meticulously planned, we’ll hopefully know when the authorities reach the end of their investigation.
