It’s been a long time coming but this week will see the cast of Friends get together in a reunion show since the popular sitcom ran to its conclusion many moons ago. Yes, it’s hard to believe it actually finished as the episodes are on seemingly permo-repeat wherever you look. If you can’t get enough of Friends and think that the only thing missing would be if it were to hosted by James Corden and feature special guests such as David Beckham and Lady Gaga, well then you have come to the right place.
Set to air just after midnight on Thursday 27th May, the Friends Reunion show will air on HBO Max, if you are in the UK you won’t be able to catch it eue naturale until 8 pm that evening when Sky shows it. The problem with that is that by then the world will be full of spoilers (no doubt about how disappointing it was) and clips and generally you will be the last to the party.
What if there was a way to talk about it in work before it airs. Could it BE any cooler? Sorry I did promise I wouldn’t do any of those catchphrases so I’ve let myself down there.
Well there is, but it’s fiddly and you are going to have to want to watch it enough to be able to jump through a couple of VPN-related hoops. It’s also worth pointing out that this won’t let you watch it for free. HBO Max is a paid-for service in the USA, just like Sky is here, so either way, it is going to cost you unless you settle for a more nefarious way after it airs, but that will won’t let you watch it live.
First up you can’t sign up for HBO Max in the UK so that’s our first stumbling block so we need to circumvent that’s particular problem with a VPN like any of the ones here.
Then we need to create an account and work out how to pay. Except the chances of you having a payment method based in the States is limited so we need to get the account linked to your PayPal (it doesn’t matter if you have a UK PayPal at this point) or purchase a pre-paid gift card for HBO Max.
- Launch your VPN on your iOS/Android device and connect to a US server
- Create a new Apple ID/Google Play account in your browser that’s tied to the US (leave the country blank)
- Register your new account on your iOS/Android device app store
- You should now have access to the US app store – download and install the HBO Max app
- Tap ‘skip’ if the app store asks you to add payment information to your account
- Create a new account in the HBO Max app with your email address and password
- Use PayPal as PayPal method
- Verify your account and you can sign in from anywhere
If whatever reason you struggle to complete registration with these steps you can purchase a gift card from Amazon US and simply add it to your account and you should be good to catch up with the rest of the Friends gang as the long-awaited Friends Reunion happens live.
