We found the best Prime Day CPU deals as Amazon kicks off its sales event this October
Table of Contents
The latest Amazon Prime Day is now underway. It’s officially known as Prime Big Deal Days and sees the site flooded with Prime member-exclusive discounts on October 7th and 8th this week. You’ll find discounts on everything from iPads to air fryers, but here we’re going to focus our search on the best Amazon Prime Day CPU deals.
There are plenty of offers to go around. We’ve done the searching for you and found the very best processors on sale – no matter whether you’re on an Intel or AMD-based rig. We expect AMD to be the popular choice for PC gamers looking to upgrade this October, especially with chips like the desirable Ryzen 7 7800X3D included in the sales (sadly, the latest gen 9800X3D is still full price), but that doesn’t mean you should count out Intel.

That covers our top picks so far during the October 2025 Prime Day sales. There are a range of great offers on previous-gen hardware, but we’ve also seen some great deals on Intel’s latest Core Ultra desktop processors, including the flagship Core Ultra 9 285K and more mid-range Core Ultra 7 265 SKUs. As for AMD, the last-gen Ryzen 7000 series offers the best value for money.
Which CPU should I choose on Prime Day?
So, with so many processors on offer, which one should you choose? If you’re upgrading an existing build, the first thing to identify is which socket you’re using. If your motherboard isn’t compatible, then you’ll need to upgrade that too.
- AMD
- AM5 (Ryzen 7000, 8000, 9000 series)
- AM4 (Ryzen 1000 – 5000 series)
- Intel
- LGA 1851 (Core Ultra Series 2)
- LGA 1700 (Core 14th, 13th & 12th gen)
In terms of our personal top picks, the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D with 25% off is the obvious option for gamers. We’ve reviewed this chip, giving it a 4.5/5 star rating on account of its fantastic gaming performance; now it’s an even better deal when discounted. The 7800X3D has dropped below $340, while its successor, the 9800X3D, will still set you back around $475. As a cheaper alternative, the 9600X is going for less than $185.
For Intel gamers, we’d recommend either the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K for top-tier performance, or the 12900K for $245 if you want a former flagship for a fraction of its original price. A couple of good 14th-gen picks are the i7-14700K and i5-14600KF – the 14700K is actually going for just $299.99, the same price as its predecessor right now.
If you’re building afresh, we can recommend any of the sockets above for your motherboard, but we would lean towards the newer AM5 in the case of AMD, as that will offer the best upgrade path moving forward. DDR5 motherboards are where you’ll want to look. AM4 is still relevant for budget builds, where you should be targeting a Ryzen 5000 series chip, but no older in our opinion.
Considering all the great deals on the newest Intel Core Ultra Series processors, now is a good time to upgrade to this latest generation if you’re building from scratch. However, for Intel users on an older 12th-gen processor, both the 13th and 14th gen are appealing options; we recommend reading our Intel Core i9-14900K review if you want to see the best the platform offers.
