Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is finally here, but its launch has been quite unstable for some players. Players have reported issues with the game crashing or just giving a black screen. In many cases, the game will simply refuse to launch, no matter how many times you click that Play button.

While our team has found several workable fixes for these problems, it is potentially risky to download such a massive game that won’t run on launch. While the official system requirements now suggest 128 GB, we found that multiplayer alone takes up around 29GB of space, and you can add 50GB more to that if you want to play single-player.

Here’s a screenshot from our PC, showing the full storage taken up by BO6, along with its launcher (and Warzone).

That’s quite a big number, but you can skip the download and get right down to playing with Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service.

What you need to play BO6 on GeForce Now

Luckily, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is available on GeForce Now, which means you don’t have to wait for the game to download to be able to play it. You can use GFN’s free tier, but we recommend getting at least the Priority tier. It’s only $10 a month, and you get a 6-hour session limit (compared to 1 hour on the free plan), no ads, and 1080p resolution. While we could achieve over 200 FPS on an RTX 3080, it’s worth noting that ‘Priority’ tier advertises “up to 60 FPS”.

Of course, you also need a solid internet connection to handle the stream. Here’s what GeForce Now recommends:

  • 15 Mbps for 720p (Up to 60 FPS)
  • 25 Mbps for 1080p (Up to 60 FPS)
  • 35 Mbps for 1440p (Up to 120 FPS)
  • 45 Mbp for 4K (Up to 120 FPS)

Game streaming isn’t always so smooth

While GFN seems like a good option to avoid the massive file size, many players are also reporting issues with it. This Reddit thread shows many players experiencing lag and stutters when playing the game. One user even reported the game crashing when loading the second map. As for single-player, there are reports of sync issues, as the game loses campaign progress upon restarting.

These issues are quite frustrating, and we hope Activision is addressing them promptly with an update. On the bright side, not all players are reporting bugs, some are also discussing a smooth gaming experience, especially in multiplayer.
