You don’t need Nintendo’s official Switch 2 camera, here’s an alternative for under $20 on Prime Day
Table of Contents
If you plan to play on your Nintendo Switch 2 while video chatting with friends or joining calls with the new GameChat feature, you'll need a webcam. Nintendo’s official camera for the Switch 2 does the job, but some people are not a fan of its $55 price tag.
There’s also the Piranha Plant Camera, which is made for the Switch 2 and looks fun, but it costs just under $60 and only supports 480p video – not great by today's standards. At this price, you should be getting at least 1080p. However, what some people may not know is that Nintendo allows third-party webcams to work with the Switch 2. This means you don’t have to stick with the official options. The best part is that, thanks to Prime Day, a great alternative to the official webcam is available at a much lower price.
Logitech C270 HD Webcam
A great alternative to the official Switch 2 camera
If you head over to Amazon, you’ll find the Logitech C270 HD webcam listed for only $19. The same webcam was previously available for $39.99, but the 52% discount has slashed its price by half. It’s also fully compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, so you won’t have to worry about running into any technical issues.
The C270 gives you HD 720p video at 30 frames per second, which is much better than the 480p resolution of the Piranha Plant Camera, but lower than the 1080p resolution of the official Switch 2 camera. It also has a 55-degree field of view, which is wide enough for most users, and includes auto light correction so you still look clear even in rooms with low lighting.
The webcam also has a built-in mic with noise reduction, meaning your voice will come through clearly even if there's some background noise. In any case, if you’re interested in getting the webcam, we recommend acting fast, as Prime Day will come to a close on July 11.
