By now, you may know that Nvidia has launched a seemingly downgraded version of the RTX 4070 with GDDR6 memory, which is 1 Gbps slower than the GDDR6X variants, which feature a memory speed of 21 Gbps. MSI also plans to launch this new lineup of 4070 cards along with other big names.
Recently, ZOTAC 4070 GDDR6 cards have been spotted on their website and across retailers, signaling that ZOTAC is also competing for a spot in this new market segment.
ZOTAC 4070 GDDR6 variants
There are a total of three variants available: two overclocked models with a boost clock of 2,490 MHz and one with a normal boost clock of 2,475 MHz, which is okay as the GDDR6X model has a boost clock of 2.48 GHz, according to Nvidia.
One of the two OC models is a white edition, while the remaining two follow the same design and color scheme. They also have similar dimensions of 236.7mm x 122.7mm x 44.9mm (9.3″ x 4.8″ x 1.8″), so they are exactly the same, with OC models having a slightly higher boost clock speed.
That said, the Twin Edge OC and base models for the RTX 4070 GDDR6 and GDDR6X cards respectively are available on Newegg with only a $10 price difference. The overclocked GDDR6 model costs $549.99, while the non-OC GDDR6X model costs $559.99. This is certainly better than ASUS’s 4070 GDDR6 costing the same as the 4070 GDDR6X.
So, if you can even get a slight boost in performance by spending $10 extra, it might be worth it. However, it all depends on the use case. The normal 2,475 MHz variant could be overclocked to go above 2,490 MHz. However, remember that an overclocked GPU will generate more heat and consume more power. We recommend using the best PSU for RTX 4070 to keep your rig powered up and installing the best PC case fans to ensure efficient thermal dissipation.
