Grant Sinclair, nephew of the late Sir Clive Sinclair (known for designing the ZX Spectrum home computer), just launched something very cool. It’s called the GamerCard, and it might be one of the thinnest gaming consoles ever made. What makes it even more special is that it’s powered by a Raspberry Pi and shaped just like a gift card.

What does the GamerCard offer?

The GamerCard looks and feels like a regular retail gift card, but it’s actually a fully working handheld gaming computer. Inside the tiny body, it packs a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, a sharp 4-inch IPS screen, a built-in battery, speakers, and all the buttons you need to play. It’s made using layers of circuit boards stacked together, so there’s no plastic case. This design keeps the console thin, light, and strong.

The best part is that you don’t need to set anything up. The GamerCard comes with two full games already installed: Bloo Kid 2, a fun platformer, and AstroBlaze DX, a fast-paced space shooter. The latter was originally made for the Nintendo Switch (Bloo Kid 2 is also available there), but they’ve been carefully adjusted to work perfectly on the GamerCard’s square screen. The company confirmed that more games will be available soon through the built-in Pi Game App.

The GamerCard can also run emulators like Recalbox and RetroPie, which means it can play thousands of retro games from old arcade machines, consoles, and handhelds. On top of that, GamerCard isn’t just for playing games; it’s also a great tool for learning to code and creating your own games. It works with PICO-8, a “fantasy console” for making and sharing mini retro-style games.

Even though it’s tiny, the GamerCard includes ports for HDMI, USB-C, and Qwiic, so you can connect it to a monitor, keyboard, or sensors. For those interested, the GamerCard is available now for £125.00. Have some patience, because if you place the order right now, it can take up to 10 weeks to arrive.
