If you’re investing in some smart lighting, you might be wondering how long smart lights last.

The good news is that smart LED lights have a long lifetime – on average, around 20,000 to 25,000 hours. That’s upwards of 10 years of life if they are on for around 6 hours a day, and even more, if you use them less. That’s far better than average filament bulbs, which last approximately 1,000 hours.

Standard LED lightbulbs last even longer – around 50,000 hours. But they don’t come with the special features which make smart lights such a useful addition to the home. That’s why, considering how they operate, smart lights actually last a relatively long time, especially compared to non-LED bulbs.

Do smart lights last a long time?

Smart lights last a long time considering their customizable nature. Of course, the lifespan varies according to price. Higher end lights like those from the Philips Hue range tend to last around 25,000 hours, even with features like music integration, customisable time settings and over 16 million colors.

However, even budget options like this double pack of the LIFX A19 650 Lumens, currently only $10.99 at Best Buy, boast a similar 25,000 hour lifespan. So although some other cheap options might clock in as low as 15,000 hours, it’s still possible to get plenty of bang for your buck.

PC Guide Expert Opinion

It is clear that smart lights last a much longer time than standard filament bulbs, making them a much more energy and cost efficient option.

Although they might not last quite as long as normal LED lights, the special features they come equipped with means the sacrifice is well worth it, especially when you consider that most come with up to more than a decade of frequent use.

If you want to invest in some affordable cutting-edge home technology which will boost your routine and add some pizzazz to how your home looks, whether you’re entertaining or relaxing, smart lights are the way to go. With a long lifespan, you can be sure that you’re getting some serious value for money.
