If you’re looking for something like that, you’re in for a treat. We have everything you need to know about Personal Blocklist and, since it is not available anymore, we also have a few alternate extensions– and instructions on installing/using them– at the end of the article.

What is Personal Blocklist and What Does it Do?

So, what is Personal Blocklist and what does it do?

Simply speaking, Personal Blocklist is a Google Chrome browser extension that blocks domains and hosts from showing up in your Google search results.

Now you might be wondering: “Why would you need something like that?”

Well, years ago it was pretty common to get search results from websites that used unsavory tactics to get ranked high.

In particular, content farms were taking over the second tier and long tail queries of Google’s search results. If you’re not familiar with the term, a content farm is a website that generates content requests based on search demand and what is expected from the publisher to make advertising revenue from that keyword.

These websites usually have low-quality content and are often rewritten from existing sources. Google’s search algorithms have been adjusted to help weed a lot of these websites out, so they aren’t as common, but they do still exist.

When you have Personal Blocklist turned on, you will be alerted at the bottom of the results page when there were blocked websites on the search result page. You also have the option to see what these were at any given time as well as the option to unblock these sites.

Unlike many extensions, you won’t have to log into your Google account since everything’s working from the browser’s end– it’s that convenient.

Where Can I Get This?

Well, you used to be able to download this extension through this link but because this was removed, it’s impossible for you to get it now.

If you’re still interested in using a blocklist, then you’ll want to check out one of our alternatives below. Trust us, it can be hard to find a good one.

Alternatives

A good alternative worth trying out is uBlacklist, which can be accessed from this link (you will be redirected to the Chrome web store). Not only does it function like Personal Blocklist, it’s also easy to use.

If you’re specifically tired of always getting Pinterest results from Google image search results, you can use Unpinterested! to get rid of all the Pinterest results that don’t really interest you. Add this to Chrome by following this link (you will be redirected to the Chrome web store).

Not everyone prefers Google Chrome. If you’re a Firefox user and you wish to have something that functions like Personal Blocklist, then you might want to check out Personal Blocklist (not by Google). Get it by heading over to this link.
