If you’re on the hunt for a quality QHD gaming monitor for a seriously competitive price, then this LG UltraGear QHD model is well worth checking out. It’s just shy of its lowest recorded price on Amazon right now, coming in at $169.99. At this price, this monitor makes a lot of sense if you’re trying to stick to a budget but still want something that will offer solid gaming performance where it matters most and actually looks pretty premium, too.

So what does this monitor bring to the table? Well, it’s actually pretty straightforward, as it’s more about doing the basics well, rather than having loads of flashy extras. It’s a 27-inch QHD IPS monitor with a 200Hz refresh rate and FreeSync Premium. That’s actually the long and short of it, in all honesty. This is the type of combination that’s great for high refresh rate gaming in QHD, and at this size, picture quality will look crisp and clear, too.

What about HDR performance? Not bad, but it’s not really the focus of this monitor. It features a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, which is pretty basic, and its contrast ratio is only 1000:1. Color is fine at 99% sRGB and will make games look quite vibrant, as will everyday web browsing, but having a higher DCI-P3 color coverage would be better for creative work, for sure. Again, I wouldn’t hold this against it, as it’s really not trying to be anything other than a cracking, cost-effective QHD gaming monitor.

On the design front, it’s impressively sleek, though, and features a small base and fully adjustable stand. LG UltraGear monitors always deliver when it comes to aesthetics, in my opinion, especially if you’re after something a little more minimal and modern than the cyberpunk gaming aesthetics of ASUS ROG, for instance.

Should you get this monitor?

This is a great pick at its current price and would pair very nicely with something like an RTX 5070 build or something similar. I’d say that for gaming performance, it’s a winner, but as mentioned, look elsewhere if banging HDR is high up on your must-have list.

Things to consider if you’re still shortlisting

You’d be surprised at what you can get for under $300 nowadays, especially with QHD monitors. For example, Gigabyte has a 240Hz QD-OLED gaming monitor that dips under $300 when on sale, at just $299.99. It all comes down to budget, but I’d suggest checking this out, as it’s seriously good value and will give you a more balanced offering that will suit future PC upgrades, too.
