Table of Contents
Whether you’re looking to get the most out of an AM4 system or you’re building a cost-effective gaming PC, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D makes a lot of sense. It’s the best gaming CPU Socket AM4 has, and if cost is key, why not pause the shift to AM5 and reuse the DDR4 RAM and components you have? Even better, why not get the 5800X3D at the best price we can see anywhere? That’s because a new Amazon deal has dropped it to $332, which is $17 below the list price.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D – 10th Anniversary Edition
Why we’d pick the Ryzen 5 5800X3D
That iconic 3D V-Cache
The first of AMD’s 3D V-Cache-sporting CPUs, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D was designed for one thing: gaming. And it does it very well. In our 2025 revisit of the CPU (before the new 10th Anniversary Edition), we saw performance that gamers will still love. That’s down to its 3D V-Cache. It’s a big store for useful game data that sits right on the chip and massively boosts frames per second across titles.
Undeniably capable in modern games
Our 2025 review of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D had us put the CPU in a Gigabyte Aorus Pro X570 motherboard and pair it with an RTX 4070 Ti Super. The results were impressive. Tested at 1080p (to avoid being GPU-bound) in Days Gone and Cyberpunk 2077, the frames were clearly fast enough for enjoyable gaming. Here are the results:

A good CPU for 1440p
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D doesn’t make sense for 4K in modern gaming, but it does at 1440p. This processor can be paired with modern midrange GPUs, including AMD’s RX 9070 variants, and if you’re upgrading from a Ryzen 5 5600X or Ryzen 7 5700X, you’ll notice a clear step up in 1440p performance. If you currently have a 5800X or 5800XT, gaming performance will improve, but there will be an obvious productivity tradeoff.
What to consider before you buy
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a wonderful CPU engineered for a specific job. So if you’re looking to build a cost-effective gaming system (or breathe new life into an AM4 PC), it makes sense to get it at the lowest price we can find online. Of course, if your budget stretches a bit further and you want more longevity, Socket AM5 will deliver superior performance with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
