Why we’d pick the AMD Ryzen 9 9900X
A powerful processor with a lot of value
AMD focused on efficiency with its 9000-Series family. As our hands-on review highlighted, that may have hampered the 9900X at launch. However, that efficiency is also a positive, and it’s (probably) the best processor for productivity, given its multi-core capabilities… and the current deal price. With the Ryzen 9 9950X currently at $500, and the upper echelons of the 9000-Series far more expensive, the 9900X is our Ryzen 9 of choice right now.
A good pick for content creators
The Ryzen 9 9900X isn’t a gaming processor. That’s not to say it won’t pair with some of the best graphics cards for gaming. It will, but you won’t get the most out of it that way. However, if you’re often using Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Blender, Photoshop, or other content creator apps, the 9900X is a good choice thanks to its 12-core and 24-thread configuration. That’s how you’ll see the benefits of this CPU. But yes, it can also support gaming.
