Apple Watch SE 3 GPS 40mm deal knocks 20% off the price in the Prime Day sale
Table of Contents
The 40mm Apple Watch SE 3 offers most of Apple’s everyday smartwatch experience in a lighter and less expensive design than the flagship Series models. Its S10 processor, always-on OLED display, temperature sensor, sleep analysis and improved charging make it a substantial step beyond the previous SE generation. It omits ECG, blood-oxygen measurement, hypertension notifications and cellular independence in this GPS configuration, but it covers the features most users are likely to access regularly. You don’t often get deals this good on Apple products, so take full advantage of this 20% off deal while it lasts!
Apple Watch SE 3 GPS (40mm) Smartwatch
This configuration combines a 40mm Midnight aluminum case with a small/medium Sport Band and GPS connectivity, although the Starlight is available. It relies on a paired iPhone or a known Wi-Fi network for calls, messages, notifications and online services when the phone is not directly nearby. Apple specifies compatibility with an iPhone 11 or later, including the second-generation iPhone SE or newer, running iOS 27 or later. It does not pair with Android phones, iPads or older unsupported iPhones.

What we like about the Apple Watch SE 3 GPS 40mm
Compact and lightweight design
The 40mm case measures 40 x 34 x 10.7mm and weighs 26.3g without the strap. Its 759mm² display has a 324 × 394 resolution at 326 pixels per inch. These specifications correct the supplied Amazon table, which primarily describes the larger 44mm model. At 26.3g before the strap is attached, the 40mm SE 3 is considerably lighter than many full-size smartwatches. Its smaller footprint makes it a sensible choice for narrower wrists, exercise and overnight sleep tracking.
Apple lists the 40mm case as suitable for wrists measuring approximately 130 to 200mm, although the included small/medium Sport Band has its own more limited adjustment range. Buyers should confirm the band size rather than relying solely on the case specification. The 10.7mm case is not exceptionally thin, but its rounded profile and low weight should prevent it from feeling bulky. The Digital Crown, side button and touchscreen provide several ways to navigate without depending entirely on small on-screen controls.
Always-on OLED display
The always-on display is one of the SE 3’s most useful upgrades. It keeps the time, activity progress and selected complications visible while the wrist is lowered, making the watch function more naturally as a conventional timepiece. LTPO technology allows the screen to reduce its power use when displaying largely static information. Brightness can fall to 2 nits in dark environments, helping the display remain discreet during sleep or in a cinema. The 1,000-nit peak is sufficient for checking workout metrics and notifications outdoors, although it is lower than the peak brightness offered by Apple’s more expensive models. The 40mm screen is also less spacious for keyboards and detailed applications than the larger Apple Watch sizes.
Ion-X front glass is designed to resist impacts and is claimed to offer four times the crack resistance of the previous SE generation. It remains more susceptible to surface scratching than sapphire crystal, so users working around abrasive materials may still want a protective cover.
S10 performance and gesture controls
The S10 chip brings the entry-level SE closer to Apple’s premium watches in general responsiveness. Apps, menus and workout screens should open quickly, while the 64GB capacity leaves room for locally stored media and software.
Double tap lets the wearer perform a context-sensitive primary action by tapping the index finger and thumb together. Depending on the screen, this can answer a call, pause a timer, control media or move through the Smart Stack. Wrist flick provides another one-handed gesture for dismissing notifications or returning to the watch face. These controls are useful when the other hand is occupied, wet or wearing a glove that makes touchscreen interaction inconvenient.
Siri can handle supported requests directly on the watch, with Apple Intelligence contributing to the newer Siri AI experience when its requirements are met. Feature availability, supported languages and usage limits can change as Apple rolls out the service.
Extensive workout tracking
The Workout app covers running, walking, cycling, swimming, strength training, rowing, hiking, HIIT, yoga, Pilates and numerous other activities. Users can create custom workouts and choose the performance metrics shown during each session.
Runners receive pace, cadence, stride length, ground-contact time, vertical oscillation, power and customizable heart-rate zones. Training Load helps compare recent workout intensity with longer-term activity, although it should be treated as guidance rather than a substitute for professional coaching.
Cyclists can connect compatible cadence and power accessories over Bluetooth. Cycling sessions can also appear as a Live Activity on the paired iPhone, creating a larger display for metrics when the phone is mounted on the handlebars.
Integrated L1 GPS tracks distance, speed and routes without using the iPhone’s location sensor. It supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and BeiDou, although it lacks the dual-frequency precision available on Apple’s Ultra line.
For swimmers, the watch records pool lengths, open-water distance, stroke type, pace, splits and SWOLF. Its 50m water-resistance rating makes it suitable for shallow-water activities, but it is not intended for scuba diving or high-velocity water sports.
Useful heart and safety monitoring
The second-generation optical sensor measures heart rate throughout the day and during exercise. It can issue notifications for unusually high or low readings and identify patterns that may indicate an irregular rhythm.
These functions can provide useful prompts to seek medical advice, but they do not diagnose a condition. The SE 3 does not include the electrical sensor needed to record an ECG, nor does it provide the blood-oxygen or hypertension features found on certain premium models.
Fall Detection can contact emergency services after detecting a hard fall if the wearer does not respond. Crash Detection uses the accelerometer, gyroscope, GPS and other signals to identify a severe vehicle collision and initiate an emergency response.
Emergency SOS, Check In and Backtrack offer additional support when travelling or exercising. The GPS-only model generally needs the paired iPhone or an available Wi-Fi connection for communications; buyers wanting independent mobile connectivity should select a GPS + Cellular version with a compatible network plan.
Temperature-informed cycle and sleep tracking
A wrist-temperature sensor adds health context while the wearer sleeps. Changes from the user’s established baseline can contribute to the Vitals app and retrospective ovulation estimates within Cycle Tracking.
This sensor is not a conventional thermometer and should not be used to measure a fever. Reliable trends also require consistent overnight wear so the watch can establish an individual baseline.
Sleep tracking records time asleep and estimates time spent in core, deep and REM stages. A sleep score condenses several measurements into an easier daily reference, while the Vitals app can highlight readings that fall outside the wearer’s typical range.
The watch can also provide notifications when repeated breathing disturbances suggest possible sleep apnea. Availability depends on region, age, software and regulatory authorization, and any alert should be discussed with an appropriate medical professional rather than treated as a diagnosis.
Faster charging makes sleep tracking easier
Apple’s 18-hour normal-use estimate remains shorter than the multi-day endurance available from some fitness watches. Daily charging will therefore remain part of ownership, particularly with an always-on display and regular workouts.
Fast charging makes that limitation easier to manage. Apple states that approximately 15 minutes supplies up to eight hours of normal use, while an eight-minute top-up can provide enough energy for eight hours of sleep tracking.
A full charge to around 80% takes approximately 45 minutes under Apple’s specified conditions. Actual results depend on the power adapter, cable, temperature, battery age and active features.
Low Power Mode can extend the estimate to 32 hours by reducing or disabling selected background functions. It is useful for travel or unexpectedly long days but is not equivalent to full-feature operation.
Strong integration with the iPhone
The SE 3 can display messages, handle calls, control music, show turn-by-turn directions and authenticate Apple Pay transactions from the wrist. Notifications can be filtered so important information remains accessible without reproducing every iPhone alert.
Apple’s Health and Fitness apps consolidate activity, sleep, heart-rate and wellness data. Third-party watchOS applications extend the device into areas such as navigation, productivity, exercise coaching and smart-home control.
This integration is one of the watch’s greatest strengths and its principal limitation. It works particularly smoothly for existing Apple users but has no practical role for someone who intends to remain on Android.
50m water resistance and everyday durability
The aluminum case and strengthened Ion-X glass are designed for exercise and daily wear. A WR50 rating permits swimming in a pool or shallow open water.
Water resistance is not permanent and may diminish as the device ages or experiences impacts. Soap, solvents, steam and high-velocity water can also affect seals, so water resistance should not be interpreted as immunity to every wet environment.
The included Sport Band is made for exercise and can be rinsed after use. People sensitive to prolonged moisture should dry both the watch and skin before wearing it again.
Who should buy this Apple watch deal?
The 40mm Apple Watch SE 3 is best suited to iPhone owners who want reliable activity tracking, notifications, safety features and sleep insights without paying for the most advanced health sensors. Its compact case is particularly appropriate for smaller wrists and users who prefer a lighter watch during workouts or sleep.
It represents a meaningful upgrade from an older SE through its always-on display, temperature sensor, faster charging, gesture controls and newer S10 hardware. Owners of a recent flagship Apple Watch may find it a downgrade because it omits ECG, blood-oxygen measurement, brighter premium displays and other advanced sensors. The GPS version is appropriate for anyone who normally carries an iPhone. Runners, travellers or family members who need calls and data when the phone is absent should consider the cellular model and its ongoing network cost.
For most iPhone users seeking the essential Apple Watch experience, the SE 3 provides a strong balance of performance, health tracking and price. Its main compromises are daily charging, reliance on the iPhone and the absence of the more specialized medical-style sensors found higher in Apple’s range.
