Table of Contents
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a portable SSD get a deal that’s worthy of coverage. But we have just spotted one that could be useful if you need to take your data with you. The Verbatim Pocket 1TB SSD is a compact USB 3.2 Gen 2 drive and has just been given a limited-time deal sticker on Amazon. At $140, it’s now $40 (22%) down from its $180 list price. And in a market where memory and SSDs are still pricey, that’s a decent saving.

Why we like the Verbatim Pocket 1TB External SSD
Fast speeds for the price
Plugged into a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, the Verbatim Pocket 1TB is rated to deliver data transfer speeds of up to 1000MB/s (read and write). That’s likely quick enough for most needs, unless you’re looking for a professional-grade device – or able to spend around double the cost of the Pocket 1TB. For storing media and crucial data, and taking game files with you, convenience is key.
Compact, light, and portable
The Pocket is a compact, light, and incredibly portable external SSD. It measures 3.78 inches x 0.39 inches x 1.78 inches (H, W, Th), and weighs 2.08 ounces. That makes it a super low-hassle device to take with you, and it comes with a keyring and a cable holder so you can easily attach it and keep it safe.

Device-agnostic connection
The Pocket may be most useful for owners who have multiple devices that benefit from portable data. The drive is device-agnostic and is compatible with PC, Mac, PS5, Xbox, and iPhone, according to Verbatim. However, it won’t be fast enough for you to play current-generation console games directly from it. As a bonus for Windows users, it also includes Nero Backup software.
What to consider before you buy
At the deal price of $140, the Verbatim Pocket 1TB should be a useful, light, and convenient external SSD to have available – especially if you are often on the go or need to carry data or files with you. While it isn’t a professional-grade device – and its speeds won’t support playing console games directly from it – it has clear benefits if you need to store a bootable OS, photos, documents, or other data. Additionally, the price was as high as $300 in August, making it a much better buy now.
