AMD Ryzen 7 5800XT
Features and specifications
- Cores and threads: This processor features 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 3 architecture with 7nm processor nodes. This gives it a transistor count of 4,150 million and should result in decent productivity and gaming performance. You should be able to pair it with modern GPUs such as the RX 9070 XT without experiencing a CPU bottleneck.
- Clock speed: The 5800XT’s base and boost clock speeds are 3.8 GHz and 4.8 GHz, respectively. However, with slight tuning, you can overclock it to push the cores to run even faster. That will require a solid CPU cooler to keep it cool, and the power draw will also go up.
- TDP: It draws 105W of power, and if you overclock it, it might pull more than that and produce more heat. However, it should result in better performance, and depending on which GPU you pair with it, even a budget PSU can be used with it.
- CPU cooler: The Ryzen 7 5800XT comes bundled with a Wraith Prism cooler, meaning you won’t have to spend more to get a new CPU cooler. It should be more than enough to keep the CPU cool during long working and gaming sessions.
Is this deal worth it?
If you’re operating on a budget but want a decent mid-range processor that gets the job done in professional and gaming workflows, the 5800XT is worth considering. If you’ve already got an AM4 motherboard, you won’t need to purchase a new board; you can install it on that. That will also save you cost, as you won’t need to buy new RAM as you’ll already be using DDR4 RAM.
However, the budget Ryzen 5 9600X offers better performance. It is also currently on sale, but it will set you back $221.37. In addition, you’ll also need a new board and RAM to go with it, increasing the overall cost, but you’ll have a better path for upgrades in the future.
