Earlier this year Sony released a redesigned version of the PS5 Digital Edition, named the the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Slim). The new model features the same performance as the original but with a sleeker design being both smaller and lighter, and with additional functionality like the increased 1TB storage and a second USB-C port.
As the name suggests this console is still digital only, although the PS5 Slim offers the option to attach a modular disc drive, (purchased separately), for added versatility and the ability to play existing physical games. We haven’t seen too much movement on the price of this PS5, but we’ve found a tasty deal that helps you land one for a record-low price just in time for Christmas.

Normally the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Slim) would set buyers back $449.99, but thanks to an unexpected 17% discount on Amazon, you can currently pick up this console for only $374 – saving you $75.99.

- Compact Design: The PS5 Slim is over 30% smaller in volume than the original PS5 and weighs about 7.1 lbs (3.2 kg), making it more space-efficient and easier to transport.
- Performance: Powered by an AMD Ryzen Zen 2 processor and RDNA 2 GPU, the console supports up to 4K gaming at 120Hz for fluid gameplay.
- Storage: Comes with a 1TB ultra-high-speed SSD, offering approximately 850GB of usable storage, an improvement over the 825GB SSD (660GB usable) in the original model. Storage is expandable with compatible M.2 SSDs.
- Gameplay Enhancements: Backwards compatible with over 4,000 PS4 titles, many benefiting from the Game Boost feature for enhanced performance.

What we think of this PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (Slim) deal
The PS5 has long been one of the most powerful and the most popular consoles on the market, and yet many users have expressed frustration with the sheer size of the original model, taking up oodles of space next to TVs or in cabinets. That, then, was the motivation behind Sony’s decision to put the PS5 Digital Edition on a diet.
Upgrades of previous PlayStation consoles like the PS3 involved wholesale changes and redesigns, however Sony seems happy with performance, and focussed fully on reducing the footprint, alongside some other more subtle improvements here and there. A 30% reduction in size along with an 18% reduction in weight compared to the original PS5 certainly make impressive reading for anyone struggling for space or keen on a more understated console, although buyers beware that the new skinnier PS5 Digital Edition (Slim) no longer comes with the vertical stand bundled in, and so if that’s how you like to store your device, then you have to purchase that separately.
Probably the most eye-grabbing thing about this console is the surprise 17% discount placed upon it by Amazon in the lead up to Christmas, dropping the price of this PS5 by over $75. As we can see from the graph above, apart from a few short promotional periods, the Digital Slim has stuck resolutely to its full price, so we were excited to bring you this deal which has dropped this console to the lowest price we’ve ever seen, making this the perfect time to treat someone, (or yourself), this Christmas.
