This MSI Katana gaming laptop now has a solid 15% knocked off its list price and is down to $1869.99 on Amazon, thanks to a recent limited-time deal. What’s curious about this particular model is that, according to pricing history, it’s gone through a sharp increase in price since around May 2026, whereas before, it was much closer to $1,600. Either way, this deal actually does bring it closer to ‘the old days’, and for the price, you’re getting a pretty powerful machine here.

First up, you’ve got an RTX 5070 with 115W TGP. That’s notably high for an RTX 5070 mobile, compared to some of your more budget-friendly RTX 5070 models, like some options from Acer Nitro, for example. It packs 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM and is built on Blackwell architecture. That means you’re getting features like MFG, which help it punch above its weight, and overall improvements to efficiency, ray tracing, and AI capabilities. It’s a very solid option for 1440p gaming, and a decent pick for video editing, too.

Its CPU is the impressive Intel Core i9-14900HX. It’s a beastly mobile CPU with 24 cores, 32 threads, a 5.8 GHz boost clock speed, and 36MB L3 cache. It makes for a powerful, high-performance pick for heavy multitasking, rendering, video editing, and, of course, gaming. With 32GB of DDR5 at your disposal, you’ve got a genuinely well-rounded, capable machine.

On to the display, which is a 15.6-inch QHD+ at 165Hz. That’s a good combination for something like the RTX 5070 mobile, especially for high refresh rate gaming. It has 100% DCI-P3 color, too, which is brilliant for video editors in particular.

Storage is adequate at 1TB, as is this laptop’s cooling. Its MSI Cooler Boost 5 system is dual-fan with a shared CPU and GPU heat-pipe design. Not bad at all, and quite in line with the price point.

Is this laptop right for you?

What you’ve got here is a brilliant 1440p gaming laptop with modern Blackwell features, a very powerful CPU, a decent screen, and enough DDR5 to help keep everything running smoothly. Its CPU is even a little overpowered for the GPU itself, but that’s going to be great if you’re using this laptop for heavy video editing and productivity, as well as gaming.

Can you get cheaper RTX 5070 laptops? Yes, if you shop around, it’s possible, although they may be more one-dimensional in some respects, with less powerful, lower-core-count CPUs. If you’re after something purely for gaming, I’d recommend exploring some options closer to the $1,600 mark. Check out our top gaming laptop deals below to see what’s currently on sale.
