Table of Contents
If you’re looking to build a gaming PC but are on a budget, the Micro Center’s Ryzen 7 5800XT and ASUS Prime B550 Plus AC mobo bundle might be for you. This is an AM4 starter kit, which will cost you only $332.49 with this offer, and you can save further costs by avoiding buying expensive DDR5 RAM. While this is an older platform, it is still alive and kicking and is still supported by AMD.
You can complete your build by pairing this processor with any mid-range GPU, and to explain its performance, the 5800XT is like an overclocked Ryzen 7 5800X, meaning a slight bump in overall output. You’ll find many users sticking to their AM4 builds as the cost of upgrades has skyrocketed, and with a decent processor, productivity and 1440p gaming are still a walk in the park.
- Good value for money
- Don’t need DDR5 RAM
- Keeps it pocket-friendly
- Will get tied to an older platform
- Path to upgrade ends after the Ryzen 9 5900XT
What we liked about this offer
Ryzen 7 5800XT holds its own in the current landscape
The Ryzen 7 5800XT was released in 2024 and offers 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 3 architecture. This processor is still churning out solid FPS at 1080p and 1440p and can handle decent multi-threaded load as well. That being said, keeping the age of the architecture in mind, this is a good option for hobbyist video 3D rendering and video editing, and we wouldn’t recommend pushing it for professional-level output.

ASUS Prime B550-Plus AC is a good AM4 motherboard
This motherboard is a decent offering for the 5800XT as it has an 8+1 power stage design, which is more than enough for the power requirements of this processor. Besides that, it comes with four RAM slots and can accommodate 128GB DDR4 RAM with a 4866(OC) maximum memory speed. For the GPU, you’ll get a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, so keep that in mind while making your decision, as modern GPUs are all PCIe 5.0.
While they are backward compatible, a PCIe 5.0 GPU will work at PCIe 4.0 speeds, meaning it’ll be limited. However, the gaming output shouldn’t be that dramatic. Besides that, it has good connectivity options but nothing super fast like we see in modern offerings, so there will have to be some compromises.
