Microsoft Surface Laptop deal slashes hundreds off the price of this MacBook Air beating notebook with 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM
Table of Contents
For years laptop aficionados longed for a worthy Windows alternative to the MacBook Air, with all the main contenders just about falling short, however this 2024 Microsoft Surface Laptop was the first to beat it at its own game – matching it in terms of specifications, performance and its overall build quality, whilst coming with the more broadly compatible Windows operating system. It’s so good I bought one myself and I imagine it will remain my go-to machine for years to come! This laptop combines a responsive 13.8-inch touchscreen and lengthy battery life in a compact aluminium design; its 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and 1TB SSD provide a practical configuration for office work, study, web applications and moderate creative workloads. As they often do before big sales events, Amazon has exaggerated the level of saving here – $1,599 was the common MSRP for this laptop, certainly not $2,099.99 which it only reached for a brief time, however a $250 saving is still pretty damn good! Grab it now for $1,349 while this offer still lasts.

What we like about the Microsoft Surface Laptop (2024)
Efficient 12-core Snapdragon X Elite processor
The Snapdragon X Elite provides strong multicore performance while consuming relatively little power. It handles office work, research, communication, browser-based applications and general multitasking without requiring the constant fan activity associated with some high-performance x86 laptops. Performance is most predictable with applications compiled for Windows on ARM. Emulated software can still run well, but results vary according to the application and the amount of translation required.

Dedicated Copilot+ neural processor
The integrated Hexagon NPU is rated to exceed Microsoft’s 40-TOPS requirement for a Copilot+ PC. It can accelerate supported on-device AI features while using less power than processing the same workload entirely through the CPU or GPU. Compatible Windows features can include enhanced Studio Effects, live-caption processing and other local AI functions. The presence of an NPU does not automatically accelerate every creative or productivity application, as developers must specifically support the available hardware and software frameworks.
Sharp 13.8-inch PixelSense Flow display
The touchscreen has a resolution of 2304 x 1536, producing approximately 201 pixels per inch. Text and interface elements therefore appear crisp, while the 3:2 aspect ratio provides more vertical working space than a conventional 16:9 laptop panel. The taller format is particularly useful for documents, spreadsheets, websites and coding. Video content will normally display modest horizontal black bars because most films and online videos use wider aspect ratios.
Smooth 120Hz refresh rate
Dynamic refresh support allows the display to operate at up to 120Hz, making scrolling, window movement and touch interaction appear noticeably smoother than on a standard 60Hz panel. Windows can reduce the refresh rate when additional fluidity is unnecessary to conserve energy.
Bright HDR-capable touchscreen
Microsoft specifies a maximum HDR brightness of approximately 600 nits, with lower sustained output during ordinary SDR use. Dolby Vision IQ support can adjust compatible video presentation according to the surrounding light level. The display provides strong clarity and colour for everyday work and media consumption.
Excellent battery efficiency
The Snapdragon platform’s low-power characteristics allow the Surface Laptop to remain responsive while delivering strong endurance and standby behaviour. It is well suited to working away from a charger during lectures, meetings, travel or a typical office day. That being said, Microsoft’s 20-hour figure is based on controlled testing and should not be interpreted as a guarantee for every workload. Video calls, emulated software, high brightness and sustained processing can reduce runtime substantially.
Premium, portable construction
The 13.8-inch model weighs approximately three pounds and measures about 0.69 inches thick. Its aluminium chassis feels more substantial than the plastic bodies used by many mainstream laptops while remaining compact enough for regular travel.
Comfortable keyboard and haptic touchpad
The keyboard provides a familiar chiclet layout with backlighting and a dedicated Copilot key. Its haptic touchpad can simulate a consistent click across a wider portion of the surface than a conventional diving-board mechanism. A 3:2 display, responsive keyboard and precise touchpad make the laptop particularly effective for long writing, research and administrative sessions.
Useful selection of modern and legacy connections
The system provides two USB-C/USB4 ports, one USB-A port, a 3.5mm audio connection and Microsoft’s Surface Connect charging port. USB4 supports high-speed data, compatible external displays and USB-C charging. Retaining USB-A is helpful for existing mice, storage devices and accessories without requiring an adapter. There is no built-in HDMI port, Ethernet connection or memory-card reader on the 13.8-inch version, so some workstation setups will require a dock.
Wi-Fi 7 connectivity
Wi-Fi 7 support provides compatibility with current high-speed wireless networks while remaining backward compatible with earlier Wi-Fi standards. Bluetooth 5.4 handles wireless headphones, mice and other peripherals.
Capable video-conferencing hardware
The Full HD Surface Studio camera supports Windows Hello facial recognition and AI-assisted Windows Studio Effects. Dual microphones and Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Atmos provide a capable integrated system for meetings and media playback. Windows Hello allows rapid sign-in without entering a password.
Large 1TB SSD
A 1TB drive provides room for applications, documents, photographs and locally synchronised cloud files without the immediate storage pressure associated with entry-level configurations. It also makes the laptop more practical for users who work with large offline project folders.
Who should buy this Microsoft Surface Laptop deal?
The Microsoft Surface Laptop is best suited to students, mobile professionals and home users who value battery life, build quality and a high-quality touchscreen. It is particularly effective for Microsoft 365, web research, communication, remote work, streaming and other mainstream productivity tasks. Its tall 3:2 screen and comfortable input devices make it a strong option for writers, administrators, consultants and users who spend much of their day working with documents. The 1TB SSD also suits people who want substantial local storage without relying entirely on cloud services.
The machine is less appropriate for users whose work depends on legacy hardware, specialist Windows utilities or applications without reliable ARM support. Music-production interfaces, engineering programs, virtualisation tools, VPN clients and corporate security software should be checked individually. Gamers should also approach it cautiously. Some lightweight and older games run successfully, but the integrated GPU is not designed for demanding titles, and games using incompatible anti-cheat drivers may not launch at all.
