This MSI 27-inch gaming monitor is now $80 off and comes in at just $269.99 at Newegg. Now that’s a great price for a 4K monitor, but this has the added bonus of being dual-mode, which makes it even more appealing. This monitor can actually switch between 4K at 160Hz and FHD at 320Hz. This essentially gives you two monitors in one: one for slower-paced, more immersive gaming, and one for speedy competitive play.

MSI 27 inch Dual Mode gaming monitor

UHD 4K 160Hz Full HD 320Hz IPS AMD FreeSync (Adaptive Sync) 0.5ms HDR400 Gaming Computer Monitor with Height Adjustable, Swivel, Pivot & Tilt Stand MAG 272URDF E16

Of course, at this price point it’s not OLED, but IPS. Is it going to blow you away with absolutely stunning HDR performance? I wouldn’t say so, but it does have a DisplayHDR 400 certification, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and pretty impressive 131% sRGB and 93% DCI-P3 color. That’s not too shabby, in all honesty, and what I’d expect for under $300. For me, this monitor is all about gaming performance, and its 0.5ms response time with FreeSync is going to ensure smooth visuals, with minimal motion blur and ghosting, even at very high frame rates.

Is this gaming monitor right for you?

Budget-friendly dual-mode gaming monitors sit in an interesting spot, as obviously gaming in 4K requires a very expensive graphics card and a powerful PC. I’d say that this monitor works well for mid-range gaming PCs, like something with an RTX 5070, for instance.

Personally, I’d probably get this monitor if I had an RTX 5060 Ti gaming PC, but I also wanted the option of 4K for non-gaming tasks, like watching films and productivity. I’d also get it if I had a PS5 or a 4K-ready console alongside my gaming PC and wanted to use the same monitor.

Things to consider

Dual-mode resolution monitors are great, but I’d highly advise looking at QHD OLEDs if you can, as they are getting seriously affordable. For instance, I’ve spotted one from Gigabyte that’s only $299.99 at Newegg and was recently launched. Be sure to check out our top monitor deals below to see what’s out there.
