What we like about the LG C3

This is a very popular TV and for good reason. It’s packed with features that make it ideal for gaming, and delivers stunning picture quality thanks to it improved OLED display. There’s also a few design tweaks from the LG C2 making it more sleek than ever. Overall, it’s an excellent, versatile option from one of the leading brands on the market.

  • OLED display: LG has some of the best OLED TVs around, and this is definitely up there despite being a couple generations old. What you’re getting here are self illuminating pixels which can deliver ‘infinite contrast’ thanks to their ability to ‘turn off’ to show dark areas of the image. What that means is that you’re getting much more life-like picture quality, which is essential when it comes to immersion.
  • Improved brightness: OLED TVs can be a little dim, especially the older models, but the LG C3 has a few tricks up its sleeve to counter this. This time, you’ve got a built in Brightness Booster, which as the name suggests ups the brightness of the picture – making it better suited to well-lit rooms.
  • Gaming features: You’ve got a 120hz refresh rate here, which means you can game at higher frames per second. But, this wouldn’t be great by itself, so thankfully it also has Nvidia G-Sync, AMD Freesync Premium, and VRR to ensure you won’t get any screen tearing when the framerate leaps up or goes down. It also has a 0.1ms response time, which is akin to some of the best gaming monitors. This will ensure that the pixels can change color very quickly, meaning that you won’t experience much in the way of ghosting on this TV.
  • Dolby Vision plus home theatre: Dolby Vision is a must-have and quite common in most higher-end TVs. It’s essentially a technology that optimized picture quality dynamically, ensuring you get the best picture possible based on what type of content you’re watching.
  • LG’s Filmmaker mode: This is a mode that allows you to see the film exactly as the director intended. That’s a huge deal for movie buffs, who appreciate the finer details such as color grading.
  • Four HDMI 2.1 ports: All the ports you’d ever need to ensure that you can connect up high-end devices without having to constantly plug in and swap out. This is ideal for home theatre set ups.
  • Super slim: Since this is an OLED TV, it doesn’t need the bulk of a backlight, so it’s very slim. This is great from an aesthetic perspective, but it’s also excellent for wall-mounting – as it should fit incredibly snug to the wall itself.

Is this deal for you?

In short, if you’re looking for an OLED TV that’s high-end, but you’re sticking to a budget of under $1200, this would be my top pick. Its versatility and exceptional picture quality are what make this TV standout from the crowd, and with the C5 release, it’s not surprising that we’re seeing its price start tumbling down into the realm of mortals nowadays – making it a brilliant time buy one.

I would say that this TV is going to best for those using it in equal amounts for both gaming and everyday usage, just to get the most bang for your buck. If you’re planning on using it for gaming only a fraction of the time, you could save a fair whack of money going for a Mini-LED 65-inch TV instead, but just one without all the gaming features.

Overall though, this is an excellent option that’s well worth considering, especially as its now back at its best ever price on Amazon.
