MSI Katana A15 AI 15.6” 165Hz QHD Gaming Laptop
What we like about this laptop
- RTX 4070 GPU: The RTX 4070 mobile GPU is similar to the RTX 3080 mobile GPU from the previous generation, and is known for its excellent performance at 1080p, and solid performance for 1440p, which can be greatly enhanced by DLSS and frame generation. For more heavy duty tasks like rendering and video editing it’s also a good option, thanks to its 8GB of VRAM.
- Ryzen 9-8945HS: This CPU has 8 cores and 16 threads, and a turbo boost of 5.2 GHz. That’s more than enough for good gaming performance, and should work well with multi-tasking too.
- Excellent screen: The screen has a punchy 165hz refresh rate, which means you’ll be able to game at up to 165 fps theoretically. That’s good for most types of games, but especially first-person shooters. The QHD resolution should also look great on the 15.6″ display.
- Latest RAM: You’ve got 32GB of DDR5 RAM packed into this laptop, which is great if you’re running multiple demanding applications at the same time. Video editors would appreciate this greatly, as will gamers.
- Ample storage: You’re getting a 1TB SSD here, which is more than enough for most people’s files and gaming libraries.
- Sleek design: Surprisingly slim, this laptop sits in the sweet spot of something that both looks and doesn’t look like a gaming laptop. It’s not as inconspicuous as the MSI Stealth line, but we think the design should appeal to a lot of tastes.
Who’s this laptop for?
This is a good mid-range laptop that I’d personally say is better for use primarily as a gaming laptop rather than your main workstation. While it can be used for more intensive video-editing and rendering tasks, I think you may be better off with something that has a slightly punchier GPU, CPU, and a screen which goes all in with a higher DCI-P3 rating or potentially even a 16:10 aspect ratio for more work space.
For the price, I think it’s a good option that has just enough bells and whistles in the design department to make it worth it. This isn’t an all-out budget laptop, but more of a step above that, so you’re getting something that has a premium touches here.
All in all, for the new deals price, it’s a quality deal well worth considering from a brand known for making some of the best gaming laptops around.
