Acer Predator X32
What we like about this monitor
- QD-OLED display: This hybrid technology combines the best parts of both QLED and OLED. It came after OLED, as a common gripe with standard OLED displays was that they could be a little dim. This solves that issue, with a slight concession in the contrast department, by bringing in QLED elements to make the image brighter, and colors more vivid. These panels are only found in the very best of the best, so getting a discount on one is a big win.
- 240hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time: Both excellent for high fps gaming and smooth onscreen motion. While you may not be able to achieve 4K at 240fps, this monitor is theoretically equipped to hand this. And with DLSS 4 and multi-frame-generation pushing frame rates super high even at high resolutions, this is the type of setup you’ll want if you want to get the most out of the latest graphics cards.
- 1700R curve: The closer the number is to zero, the more aggressive the curve, so this is actually quite subtle. That’s great for immersion when gaming, but also allows this monitor to be used for other activities without too much distortion. These curved monitors are also said to be slightly easier on the eyes too.
- DCI-P3 99% color gamut: DCI-P3 is a color gamut standard used mostly in digital cinema, and it essentially offers a broader range of colors than sRGB. This monitor can recreate 99% of this color gamut, which means more vibrant colors which are more accurate to real-life. That’s great for gaming, as it makes everything look more realistic, but it’s also great for design and video-editing too, especially if you’re color grading.
- 65W USB-C: Charge your devices simply by plugging them into the monitor via the USB-C port, and drastically cut down on the desk clutter.
- Glossy surface: While this may not be for everyone, it does make images look stunning, especially in lower light environments. If you’re into see games look their very best, this is going to be a game-changer.
Who’s this deal for?
This is a super high-end 4K monitor that’s going to work best with higher-end builds, designed for 4K gaming. I’d say that you’re looking at some of the top 40-series cards and beyond in your rig to get the most out of this monitor, and if that doesn’t sound like you, there are plenty of QHD QD-OLED displays that would be well worth considering as an alternative (they’re cheaper too and in the sales).
As for using it for tasks like video-editing and design, I think it’s a great shout thanks to its 99% DCI-P3 rating. That’s going to ensure that you can accurately edit your work knowing it aligns with the industry standards.
The glossy finish may throw some people off, so I’d say avoid this if you’re using it in a well-lit room and opt for something with an anti-glare coating instead.
